We have one website that contains a great deal of information on
S-Scale. That is Craig O'Connell's site at
http://www.trainweb.org/crocon/sscale.html The only problem with it is that it
lacks reference to the small purveyors of scale stuff and is not updated
regularly. An obvious problem is that it does not reach modelers who are not
on-line - I don't know how many this might be.
What I need is an ongoing and up-to-date list of S-scale suppliers. I would
like to see in print a monthly updated sheet with the kind of information we
get on this list - for example, where can I buy some brass air hoses? Who makes
etched metal running-boards? What's a good source of low-temp soldering
equipment? These are the kinds of questions that are not answered in any
publication and probably not any web-site at this time. It would make available
information about small vendors who are not big enough to buy ads in slick
magazines but who provide useful products.
I believe this kind of media is the proper job for the NASG Dispatch (please
curb your flames) I don't think we need more articles and pictures in a
magazine or a web-site. The Dispatch office could keep a file of suppliers in
the computer, upgrade it as they get new information, and print it out for
inclusion in every Dispatch issue.
One advantage of this kind of media is that the suppliers themselves can keep
it up to date. Once it gets started and has some reaction from buyers it will
serve as free advertising for participants. An email to the Dispatch will serve
to upgrade each posted item. Product mentions could be one line or less with an
address for the seller - real commercial selling from real professional
vendors. Conceivably it could accept mentions from individuals disposing of
items for a fixed price - as happens on this list - but not auctioning.
