Hi All --
I am not going to throw stones at Mr. Bendever. He made a valiant attempt
to make his magazine work. However, he got off on the wrong foot with his
first issue being of very poor reproduction quality at a price that said
otherwise. Things did improve, but never enough to justify the price to
potential buyers. I tried for a couple of years to sell his magazine in
our store, but the response was universal -- to much $ for not enough mag.
I think that there is definitely a place for a semi-annual publication IF it
is on the same level as the "Fine Scale Modeler" semi-annual magazines which
retail at nearly $20, but contain a lot of interesting info. Going to an
annual publication is too long a period to maintain buying interest and
anticipation -- folks forget when the "unnual" is up! The real question
becomes one of source material: do we have anyone other than Ed Loiseaux,
Dick Karnes and Jeff English who are capable of in-depth articles?
I think a significant problem to overcome is the fact that most of us have
already "been there and done that", and that taking the MR appraoch of
reinventing the wheel every six months won't cut it.
Good luck to our next great publisher!
Bill Winans
I was thinking more like Bi-Annual but the original modelers guide was
quarterly.
