There are significant differences. For example
What is S-scale?
answer 1/64
What is S-gauge
answer requires several pages on history of toy and model trains - definition
of gauge compared to scale - explanations of the meaning of hi-rail and
tinplate - explanation that the expression "S-gauge" has no intrinsic meaning.
We're all just playing with trains but it doesn't mean we have to get sloppy.
My impression is that people in S-scale are firm about the distinction. People
in S-gauge don't care. There's a message right there.
By the way - this list is supposed to be devoted to S-scale - why do
discussions like this even arise?
