Brian...I am not an expert either, but you probably need to define your
end goal and lighting environment more precisely before you can
intelligently select the best film. For instance, do you want prints
or slides? Slides are best for sending to magazines for publication,
but prints will also work to some extent. Is your lighting
incandescent, flourescent, natural sunlight (from windows or light
stands), or what? Different film types are specifically made for
different kinds of light sources. Is depth of field important or will
you be shooting "flat" photos? Is the scene primary greenish (forest,
etc.) or primary redish/brownish (box cars, etc.). Some films do a
better job with greenish stuff and others do better with reddish
stuff. I am sure Bob Werre could write you a long dissertation on
films, but hopefully this email will get you to thinking about it to
some extent. Taking the time to do it right will result in a much
