Bob-
Not to speak for Tom, but actually the Hydra Cushion underframe on the FMC 5283
dbl door isn't a contemporary technology. The Hydra Cushion underframe was
developed in the mid 1950's by the SP and Stanford Research Institute. See
http://www.carrtracks.com/sphc01.htm and
http://www.sri.com/about/timeline/hydracushion.html

Some of the PRS 50' boxcars have "Hydra Cushion Underframe" stenciled on the
side but, of course, the underframes on these models do not follow that
proclamation. Would be nice if they did.

Subject: {S-Scale List} looking for Tom Hawley

Friends, Since Tom is our resident 'modern/contemporary' knowledge man,

I have a question. I purchased one of the FMC boxcars from DesPlains'

tables. When I got it out to add couplers, it's very easy to see that

the underbody is very different than more traditional models. My guess

is that's it's the hydrocushion system. Fill us in Tom!
