Hi all:
I am trying to find out some information for someone, and I must admit
that I know essentially nothing about DCC. However, I read a few pages
(have become a little dangerous) and have one basic question.
The person will be using the NCE Power Pro for DCC. He has a Magna
Force transformer that puts out 15 VAC to his power pro, but it operates
on 110 V input - so he thus needs a stepdown transformer (from 220 VAC
to 110 VAC). Alternatively, does this mean that he could use one of the
old AC Gilbert transformers, that were made for overseas use, which take
220 VAC and drop it down to the usual 15-18 VAC base post and the
variable 7-16 VAC for operating the engines? The MagnaForce transformer
doesn't supply DC to the Power pro, so unless one needs a carefully
regulated power supply, it seems as though these older, cheaper
transformers could do the job and thus bypass the magnaforce transformer
and the stepdown transformer. I think they need to have about 6 amps
available, also.
Any comments, suggestions, is this all wishful thinking, etc.????
thanks ahead of time
