It looks like you got the entire range gear towers. Maybe the new spring drive
towers are made to fit the old chassis. That would make some sense, but common
sense doesn't always seem to be the norm.
The evolution of AM motors is a complete mystery to me. All I seem to remember
was that when I purchased my first GP 9/18 directly from AM over 15 years ago
it came with a flat sided motor (I can't recall if it had a flywheel). Then a
couple of years later I picked up a pair of GP35s at a local flea market and
they had the round can motors.
