Bob,
I haven't noticed rocking. Then again my trackwork is rather smooth (hand
built) with floors in all the turnouts and crossings. And they don't wiggle
down the track the way the spring universal drive shafts do. On the otherhand
I noticed a crack in one of the universal joints the other day on an SD60.

One of our club members has a u-boat that seemed really unstable. It made me
scared to purchase a 2 axle 'spring drive' loco.
