Why work so hard?  Just call your local lumber yard (the real kind) and ask 
about bendable plywood.  The stuff comes in 4x8 sheets and is available to bend 
in the short or long orientation.  I purchased the 3/8 inch thick version and 
I'm not sure how tight a bend you can make, but I know you could bend it around 
a 12 inch (maybe smaller) diameter.  Only problem I had is trying to load and 
unload it - the stuff is floppy!

The Houston S Gaugers used 1/2 ply with saw cuts every few inches on the 
inside.  We then, after forming to the curve just glued and 
screwed--that was 86' I think.  Showing some wear now but don't we all!
