My thanks to all who replied both on and offlist. Getting this speaker out
will be my FNF chore.
This engine, S-Helper SW1 SP 1014, was the first DCC sound installation I did
in S scale. I followed Michael Green & Bill Clark's instructions but for some
reason I now regret I used Goo as the glue to build the speaker box. I do
recall I wanted a rubbery adhesive for the box. Never thought about bulb
replacement. Must have had rocks in my head!
Yes, I am backdating my switcher with S Helper's headlight replacement kit.
The replacement is part of a major overhaul to this engine as a result of a
stray elbow that sent the loco crashing onto a cement floor a few years ago. I
have had to replace one of the pilots, the cab, and few details. I need to
paint and decal the cab and then finish with a light weathering job. I will
also upgrade the original Lenz LE040 decoder with a Lenz Silver that is smaller
and has better motor control.
This project has been on my "to do" list for a long, long time and I am excited
to finally be working on it.
