On the brake gear, you can replace all the plastic pipes and rods with wire.  
The clevises on the brake levers can be carefully drilled out to take the wire.

Something that’s helped for me is to cut (carefully!) the large sprue 
surronding the delicate parts, before trying to cut them out.  It seems to 
relieve the pressure.
