Hi Butch,

Code 87 (P:64) wheels require precision, PROTO-scale trackwork.  Code 88 wheels 
do not, and should operate fine on most of the readily-available turnouts on 
the market such as Shinohara, Tomalco Track, Railway Engineering, and those 
made with a Fast Tracks jig... and look 100 times better in the process.

If code 87 wheels are already available what is the benefit of code 88 wheel.
