The discussion about the AM FP-7 shell presents the inordinately high price of one undecorated shell. One wonders why. About ten years ago, I had a NYC shell on my powered A unit. I had no desire for an NYC FP-7 shell, and I don't think the NYC owned any FP-7 units anyway.
I called Ron Bashista asking whether I could send him the shell in exchange for an undecorated one. He allowed the exchange but charged me an additional $16.00. I have no complaints about that since I got two FP-7 units at a very much reduced price from a local hobby shop. I offered Ron the other FP-7 shell in exchange which was UP but he declined on that one, saying he found more demand for NYC stuff at that time. Later I purchased off Ebay an undecorated FP-7 shell. I now have a spare UP shell if anyone would like it through trade or purchase. Contact me off list. I suppose it would not be too arduous a chore to strip the shell since it is mostly UP yellow. I can see paying $30 or $35 for a shell, but not $50. I cannot > justify that price... especially not an undecorated shell. > John Degnan Gents... Does anyone know how much Athearn charges for a "loose shell" for one of their current production HO diesels? Or Flyonel? Or Jim King? Or Des Plaines Hobbies for their yet-to-be-released new diesel? Or SHS? Is it possible that AM just might be more cooperative than the others when it comes to "loose shells"? Just curious....Ed L. ------------------------------------ Yahoo!
