I had two hinged lift-ups on my last model railroad, which worked fine. I
was going to do the same on two place of my new layout, but the benchwork
and higher and the ceiling lower so a hinged lift-out couldn't be opened to
a vertical position. I wound up using some heavy duty drawer slides that
had a full 24" travel and made two vertical lift sections. They provide
enough clearance that I can walk under them with no problem. A tall person
will have to duck his head, but I figure that's his problem.

If the track crosses the movable section at an angle (not perpendicular to
the edge), I add a guardrail, because it will help. That said, there were
no guardrails on the movable sections of my old layout, and they worked
fine.

Almost finished the Citrus Shed.  It seems to me that Showcase Miniatures
used the same thin material for this kit as they use for their HO kits.  The
material is so thin, and the glue points so few, that I'm constantly
reassembling the structure with additional bracing.  The other contributors
are the open construction and odd angles of the parts makes the proper
clamping of glue joints almost impossible.  Even so, it has gone together
extremely well.  The design and laser cutting has produced parts so accurate
that no fitting is necessary.  Pictures coming, if it stays together this
time :o)

Rebuilt the sub-standard area of my benchwork.  A little more work and I can
begin laying track on the lower level.  Then I have to tackle the lift-out
section across the doorway.  I haven't any first hand experience with these
things, and haven't decided on the method.  I could go with a drop-down or
lift-out.  The opening is only slightly over 24", and it would only have
to be used to get into the room.  No need to use it once your in there
(except bathroom breaks).  I don't think more than 3 people could be in
there at any one time.  4 people would have to be VERY good freinds or just
looking things over, but not operating.  There isn't enough room for any
more.

The end points that need to be connected are quite stable.  Any good advice?
