The primary reason that I think more S Scalers is better is that it is fun
running trains with other guys. S meets whether it be NASG conventions or
sprees or Blue Ridge Scalers meetings are fun. And the more the merrier.
Part of this enjoyment is learning from others, whether in clinics or just
shooting the bull. But we need NUMBERS to have these meets. What a
disappointment to go to an S meeting and seeing very few scalers, or very few
scale topics in the clinics. And what a joy when there are a whole bunch who
show up. And the friends we make in this hobby are wonderful. The more
the better.
The reasons I gave in the paragraph above have nothing to do with the
amount of product available. But most of us do want more scale products to
become available. Again we need NUMBERS for this to happen.
Do I need more product? Not really, though there will always be something
else I want. But the hobby is interesting to watch whether you are a
buyer or not. This hobby grows on you after you have been in it awhile. One
becomes interested in the development of new products and in the people who
are doing the development. And growth in the hobby results in more stuff
to pay attention to, whether buying it or not. I cannot buy everything I
see that I like, but I like the seeing part. Its gets boring when there is
no new product. But with the creativity and ingenuity of the scalers (and
high railers) I think we are going to continue to see growth in S scale. An
improving economy, of course, would help.
So Bill, its OK if you do not care about growth. No, really, its OK.
Each to his own. There is no right or wrong in this debate. But I have tried
to express some reasons that I think more S Scalers are better.

ps: Oh, one more thing. We have a little S event coming up in
Chattanooga in a few months. Y'all come!
And be sure you have Tuesday, August 7th through Saturday, August 11th,
2012 on your calendar. We need NUMBERS!
