This is all spilt milk, but then again this group seems to specialize in split
milk on occasion...

NASG first made track and wheel gauges in the mid-80's to support the (then)
"new" NASG track and wheel standards (adopted in 1981); because nothing else
existed and to encourage people to "go build a railroad"... (Ed L. and I were
on the BOT that adopted them...)

Since then, NMRA adopted the NASG standards, lots of railroads were built and
the original run of gage tools began to run low. In 2009 NASG had 2000
replacement gauges made as NMRA has never made noises about making one
themselves. Some years ago NASG traded gauges with NMRA, standard for Sn3. I
have no idea what happened to the six NMRA received, but the Sn3 gauges NASG
received did not sell very well in NASG's Clearinghouse. NMRA has never
contacted NASG about another trade.

It is disappointing NMRA never saw fit to make a tool, but life is full of
disappointments... At some point we need to quit arguing about the past and
move on... The fact is over the years tens of thousands (maybe over 100,000?)
cars and locomotives have been built to these S Scale standards. We owe a
great debt of gratitude to the hard work done by Bill Peters and Wayne Pier to
develop standards that worked and have stood the test of time. That is the
story we should be telling...!

Earl – In 1995(?) Bill and Diane Wade organized about a 10 booth "This is S
Scale Today" display at the Atlanta NMRA convention. It was a great time for
all of us who volunteered to travel and work those booths. I believe we turned
some heads on S Scale in those years. It would be nice to visit Atlanta
again...
