My personal choice is for a steam whistle.

Some years ago, I remember seeing something about someone who installed one
of the older steam sound systems in his van.  He synchronized the chuff with
magnets on one of the wheels.

There must be some special recorded horn units available.  At a car show
this year, I heard a car with a "cat call" horn.
