In the past many and recent years, I've come across two things that have
bugged me.
First, I think I only have two cars with the Ace archbar trucks--one a
retro fitted SHS reefer and the other a second hand Mainline boxcar with
truss rods. If I have a derailment it will be one of those cars. All
the trucks have the delrin bearings, delrin washers, NWSL wheels plus
the truck seems to equalize properly--I don't know what more I can do to
keep them on the track.
Second, (and this seems to happen during open-house running) a
particular car will derail at a spot 'most' of the time. Generally, I
can pick up the car, reverse it end for end and it will run fine
thereafter--why?

The ACE trucks were the only ones to pick that one frog of the
diamond. And
the track is curved as it goes through the frogs . . . . . . . . . . .

If the wheelsets and the trackwork are to specifications (S3 & S4 as I
recall), that shouldn't happen, irrespective of whether the journal is
cone-
or cylinder-shaped. Check-gauge pulls the flange away from the point so
there's no contact.
But that's just theory. In reality, who knows? I think if I had that
situation I would want to get out my test-car, the one that's just a
clear
plastic floor, affix one of the offending ACE trucks, and roll it thru
the
frog & guardrail area while watching carefully.
