Hi Bill --- An interesting question that I gave one nanosecond of thought. There is no question that I would remain in scale S because it has the best set of compromises for me (just come by and watch the trains run SO WELL). I have given all the other mainstream small scales a try -- N, HO, and O with a test of TT – and once quality S models were coming down the pipe, there was no other choice. I would have been there even without trying the other scales, but it did take Bill Peter and his Sn3 products to move me into S. I had a bunch of DRGW HO stuff, both standard and narrow gauge, so the initial conversion was relatively painless – two HO models for the equivalent S model...
Obscurity or the esoteric quality of S means nothing to me. In fact, I like to have the feel of big time railroading with sizable trains, so the scale can’t be too obscure or I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it. If it were THE “standard” scale, it would probably be that much more fun, as then I wouldn’t have to be such a lone wolf and there would probably be a large scale S club in the area... I have never looked back, though I still have some special HO models on display which haven’t run in at least 10 years (when I still had access to an HO club layout). FYI, there is too much stuff out in S land NOW for my wallet and space to acquire! (And I have too much already!) Have fun! Bill Winans ----------------------------- I don’t think I have ever seen this question posed…. I would much prefer that you only answer ONCE for yourself since it requires some introspection and also a little confession about what makes you tick. You really can’t answer such things for someone else. What if today S Scale was the “winner” as by far the most popular scale. Anything else is a distant 2nd.Tons of products. Lots of companies coming out with a never ending flow of wonderful models – more than most people’s wallets can keep up with. WOULD YOU STILL BE AN S SCALER? Bill Lane
