I dont think I have ever seen this question posed . I would much prefer that you only answer ONCE for yourself since it requires some introspection and also a little confession about what makes you tick. You really cant answer such things for someone else.
What if today S Scale was the winner as by far the most popular scale. Anything else is a distant 2nd.Tons of products. Lots of companies coming out with a never ending flow of wonderful models more than most peoples wallets can keep up with. WOULD YOU STILL BE AN S SCALER? I will answer first. When I first changed from HO I really embraced the fact that where was much less available in S than in HO. I had a good collection of Athearn going so the fact that S was over twice the price was a GOOD thing for me! I was just starting to think about buying brass in HO (I never did) but could not imagine my full blown brass bug addiction set loose in HO. I would never have a dime to my name! Plus having been predisposed to S from my American Flyer days absolutely was a factor. Switching to S was not a big drawn out decision. Really it was about the first CJSS Get Together I went to in 1987 that completely knocked me out. I was truly at the peak of my HO days, attended the meet with my best train bud at that time, and after an hour I told him I have to start selling some of my HO to buy S. A few months later it was set in motion when I bought about 100 pieces of 2nd hand but all new in the box American Models items. It was all a done deal. Perhaps some here find comfort in the smallness of it all. If S was huge you would be off in OOOn42 ½ or something obscure like that.
