What would really be nice would be if they could schedule the workshops
and such on the weekend instead of Friday.
I was all set to go but an issue at work kept me from being there Friday
and there was nothing I hadn't already done on Saturday. Once you've
seen the ground burning and steam coming up from the grass it's enough.
Plus last time I was through Centralia there were actually people who
hadn't left and 61 hadn't been moved.

I almost didn't attend the NASG convention in Scranton. Faced with
several hundred dollars and being on a fixed retirement income, I
didn't see how I could justify spending all that money. I came up with
a compromise: a one-day blitz. I had my layout open for three days of
the convention, so I went to Scranton early Friday morning and figured
on spending the day at the convention, stay at a cheap motel in
Wilkes-Barre that night and return home Saturday morning. It looks
like the convention folks weren't geared for one-dayers. I paid my 20
bucks on line, but the folks at the registration table didn't have a
record of my applying and they had no badges for my wife and me. No
problem, Jamie came by and we did up some hand-written badges. Since
it was for one day, we couldn't get tickets for Steamtown, but since I
had a Golden Age Passport, we got in for nothing anyway. I had a great
time seeing a lot of old friends and got to peruse the dealer hall. My
big purchase was a PRR X31 made by Frank Titman.
So, I spent a total of $125 for the whole thing, not counting gas from
Shippensburg, PA. Obviously, I can't do a one dayer in Wisconsin next
year, but I hope we can swing it to go for several days. If anyone
lives fairly close to a convention, I would recommend doing one day if
cost cutting is your thing so you won't miss out on all the fun. I
just hope the convention folks can accomodate one-dayers more
efficiently. This is not meant to criticize an overall great
convention. It looks like I'll get my turn to run one. I volunteered
to head up the 2014 NMRA MER regional convention if our division votes
to do it.
