If you take a closer look at MRTG, it *can* alert, but that certainly isn't
its primary purpose in life. In addition, you'll need some
scripting/programming skills that are definitely beyond me at the moment to
make it go.

That said, MRTG is a very cool tool, if you need to monitor SNMP-capable
devices, and know which OIDs you wish to monitor. It's certainly the right
tool for monitoring bandwidth utilization for an SNMP-capable network
device, since the OIDs for those are usually quite well-known.

SA is able to log into RRD.
>From what I see MRTG is not realy monitor (since it can't alert to my
knowledge), it's able to make graphs of bandwidth (and other things it can
see via SNMP). Similar to RRD....

That raises an interesting question for me. What's the relationship between
SA and MRTG (or other bandwidth monitoring tools). Where do SA's logging
come into play with this sort of thing?

If you ADSL router support SNMP, then you will better off using MRTG for
this (www.mrtg.org).

Hi all,

I have a windows 2000 server, a windows NT4 Server, a BT (British
Telecom)
ADSL router, and a Netgear router that I would like to monitor bandwidth
used/bandwidth availible on.

Would Servers Alive be able to do this?

Cheers, Stuart
