If it would work transparantly then it wouldn't add any complexity. 

The idea is that the DB would have a default delivered with the product, and 
optionaly possible to use another db backend like sql/oracle/….

Can this be optional?  Enterprise only?  In many installations I would not want 
or need the added complexity of a database.
