Hello some users (ocassionally Sam users), I've put out of temper, as I read the mail below. Please don't read the rest, when you don't like my rude mails. Whis might be too much for you...
Although somebody may want to kick me out Sam-users, after reading this mail, I had to write it, since it is really serious. I had really enough of these stupid naive mails written by Dave. Sorry. > > -----Original Message----- > > From: Dave [SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Sent: Saturday, October 21, 2000 12:41 PM > > To: sam-users@nvg.ntnu.no > > Subject: SAM 2000? > > > > > > OK hows about this for a thought. > > > > There are lighter and faster free kernels out there that are GPLed than > > the Linux kernel. At first I don't understand why do you want to call thess bullshits a "Sam". Why don't you call it "Dave", or something else? It is your idea, not MGT's one. > > Reasons this would help: > > (1) It would be cheap as anything Everything became cheap, as time goes. You can buy old 286 computer and it is very cheap. If you declare "anything particular" as a standard, it will become cheap soon. But it will be out-dated very soon too!!! > > (2) We could upgrade the specs when we wanted That is the point! You can't update the specs as fast as invention runs!!! You are the only man, and can't catch the world's progress. I'm start thinking you see yourself as a God..... > > (3) Because we would pick one chip, one set of hardware cards it would > > be possible to drive the metal rather than having to use indirection ( > > AKA DirectX ). How does correspond this with point (2), where you write: "We change specs, WHEN WE WANTED."? This goes against each other, doesn't it? > > (4) It could also run Windoze/Linux in some kind of dual boot mode. Linux is okay, but to run Windows you need 100% PC AT compatible. > > (5) It could have a SAM Emulator directly overlaid onto it Look, I don't see any advantage in this? Why do you think this would be better than, say, Si Owen's great emulator for Windows? > > (6) It could have a standard case and decals to give it a brand image This would cost much more than classic PC-ATX case. I really think you thinks like a little child. Things don't go so simply in real world. Or - I'm sorry if you are - you are a real God and able to do anything unpossible. > > (7) We get free hardware upgrades on the back of the PC market ;-) Free? > > (8) It would be our OS Okay, you'll spend months or years to make it work, and then the rest of your life with keeping it together, as new hardware arrives very often. Okay, you showed us a PC with a weird op.system incl. Sam emulator. So I ask why not to let us choose the hardawre pieces we want, and op.system we want? Then we can use SimCoupe. Since SimCoupe is portable and free (source), it is available on any op.system. (At least op.systems which are used by some programmers, who can make the port.) Why should I have two computers or even two partitions on one computer to use Sam emulator, when I can have all this on my current computer and disk partition? > > If we community source our software ( rather than open source ) we can > > port existing applications to it, when we build another we can share the > > source amongst those that have joined the community. This is really stupid idea. You are so naive I can't believe it!!!!!!! btw. Most of the people rather pay for quality and servis, than get everything "free". Often, the "free" is much more expensive than classic stuff. As we say in Czech: "I am not so rich, to get so cheap things." You probably know this in UK too. > > You are probably going to tell me this has been done before and why not > > Linux et al. Maybe, to have something less rude, we can call it "Dave the dreamer". > > It would be nice to house the keyboard and case together - or at least > > linked so that you can unhook the main case and place it elsewhere ( > > this would imply some sort of infra-red connection or spooled cable ) > > but anything custom is going to be expensive or have to be fabricated. > > > > Doesnt have to be PC based, could be ARM or other Risc based. I'm just saying: This is stupid. Better said: naive. Frankly, to all intenst and purposes, everything you wrote on Sam Users so far is quite stupid. But of course this is just my opinion. Of course these all can work. No problem. But it is out of reality. Please stop dreaming, wake up, Dave!!! Aley - youmaywanttokickmeoutbutIsaidthetruth - Keprt
