Steve,

August 17-18, 2003, there were four postings (see below) to the list between
Randy Gibson and Anil concerning routing Sambar e-mail to AOL (this was about
a week prior to your August 26 posting concerning the same AOL issue). Randy
suggested that the Global Routing Rules could handle AOL-bound e-mail via an
ISP's SMTP server while leaving the rest of the e-mail to be handled by
Sambar's MTA, but he could not figure out how to make the routing rules
accomplish this. I did not see a subsequent posting with a definitive answer
and/or details.

Subject: [sambar] Global routing rule for mail server

Jeff-

I KNOW that DNS is the root of the problem. However, let me once again ask
anyone who may know how to set up some ROUTING RULES in Sambar to divert aol
destined messages to an isp while using MTA for everything else.

By the way, I have a static IP with Charter Pipeline. Unfortunately, they
don't support reverse DNS. When I requested a static IP, all they did is
lock down the dynamic IP I was on at the time....so it looks like I'm doomed
to remain in the residential IP range.

But, someone in a past forum mentioned that ROUTING RULES can resolve the
problem. Right now I disabled MTA and am using my ISP for mail delivery.
While there are no problems with this setup, it seems a bit lame for a
computer fanatic like me.

Do you have an account with your ISP?

If you do have it, then use the relay feature using your isp username and
password, That is the second best alternative that i can suggest.

You still have some control over your smtp server.

Anil, I tried the Relay's already. to no avail. also I have a Dynamic IP so
my ISP will NOT setup Reverse DNS for me.

so I'm stuck with using Global Routing Rules, but I can't figure out how

try using one of its relay's. Many spammers use it to relay their spam to aol
users, using my domain name and a false email address as the return address.

Their relays are hopeless, so i have blocked all mail that has travelled
through some particular "relays"

Alternatively, ask your IP PROVIDER to set up a reverse dns address! That
should be pretty easy for them, or IF they have given you control to do it
yourself, then Just add that entry in your dns server.

AOL will no longer take mail from an IP without Reverse DNS setup. which I
don't have..

I want ALL outgoing mail to use the buildin MTA unless it's destination is
AOL.COM, then I need to use my ISP's SMTP

I look at the routing rules, but they did'nt seem to do what I need

How do I do this.

THank
Randy
