Follow-up Comment #4, bug #2307 (project savane):

That's because the default locale for Russian is ISO-8859-5 (at least on the
GNA! servers). Gettext handles this conversion automatically from the encoding
used in the translation to the encoding for the output locale.
"While you switch it to UTF-8, please ask the author of the translation to
test it _live_ on the web site. To put it in nice way, some items are
translated *not precisely correct*."
Could you please be a little more specific on this? Which items are not
correctly translated? Most likely, we can already fix this before the switch
to UTF-8.
