Definitly one should bring scids LaTeX to this century, and
Skak is a good package. Used it sometimes in the past.

That would be a good thing! :) And as there's some work to
be done for the upcoming 3.6.23...

Would be perfect if you could look into it, IMHO. I could
check the LaTeX you generate for conformity, and Ulrich sure
also has to offer some expertise here. Probably it would be
a good idea to take advantage of LaTeX' chess moves
themselves instead of writing out the mainline as text and
placing the diagrams manually. This could result in cleaner
(LaTeX) code, but surely it involves some work here.
IMHO a good idea would also be the direct generation of a
PDF (for some reason people prefer that against ps.gz) for
those arround who don't know LaTeX. The call to pdflatex
shouldn't be to difficult.
