Thanks for the pointer, I found it:
sc_remote
can do the trick! :) The nice thing is, that it also spawns
a new instance in case scid is not already running. Ie. it
works pretty much as it should.
The only drawback is, that it seems to dislike file
extensions, that is if it is called with "somefile.sg3" e.g.
it causes scid to "import from PGN" with all games displayed
but loosing the header info. Stripping of the file extension
seems sufficient to fix it. I'll put it on the list to check
into this.
Now, I can fire up an instance of scid and once I click on
any chess file in my file manager it opens right in that
instance without spawning another copy. Very handy, indeed,
and quite a gain in performance if scid is already opened.
