I believe Alex Haley's grandfather served with them during WWI their sister
division was the 93rd. What was sad was that even though the 93rd had more
decorations than the 92nd because it was placed under French command during WWI
in WWII it was relegated to support duties. The 92nd was the only Black
DIVISION to see combat in WWII. They're my favorite division, but most of the
books on them portray them as incompetent or cowards. Several members of the
92nd were awarded the Medal of Honor during the 1990s. There was a site that
had a list of all of the Black Units.
