I knew somebody was going to play the Pierce Brosnan card. The difference is that, particularly in the Bond films, this is an anomaly - usually the Bond torture comes at the end of the film (see "Casino Royale") not the beginning.
One would be hand-pressed to name a female actioner where this doesn't begin this way. And, if you can name one it probably underperformed at the box office.
