Thanks for helping. I have the following versions installed;
sdaps 1.1.10-1
reportlab 3.0-1build1
texlive-xetex 2013.20140215-1
I reproduced the same problem with a fresh install on a separate machine. I
don't know why it works for you, though the font you are using for Japanese
looks different.
Anyway, problem is now solved!

Regarding point 2 in my change log, I needed to simply change;
\setmainfont{TakaoExGothic}
to
\setCJKmainfont{TakaoExGothic}
That fixed it for both machines. I have attached the change file.
