Re: [AI] how can a blind enjoy vacations?
My idea of a vacation would include 1. Good company 2. Good food 3. Good weather 4. Good reading material 5. Opportunities for long walks with friends/family 6. Shopping 7. Gathering information and knowledge of the place I visit. 8. Engaging activity with family and friends Sight seeing might not necessarily feature high on my list. Sight seeing is good for me if the company is compelling. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Asudani, Rajesh Sent: 15 December 2016 10:43 To: AccessIndia: a list for discussing accessibility and issues concerning the disabled. Re: [AI] how can a blind enjoy vacations?
Sazid, 1. Try to get a different person to escort you each day. 2. A significant part of a vacation is interacting with the people around you. 3. As others have said, ask questions and touch what you can. This assumes you are walking. When driving, do ask different people to describe what is out the window. 4. If you want to get fancy, grab an app like iMusic or the vOICe and look at the scenery or since both those apps have a learning curve, use taptapsee and get an independent sceninary description which can yield more avenues for exploration. 5. Travel light if possible. 6. Get into as many group photos as possible. You want to be recognized even after the trip. 7. Participate in as many activities as you can. No waiting at the hotel. Hi Friends, You should never miss the chance to go out and have fun! Whenever huge group of people is there it’s really a fun and enjoyable, I too have enjoyed my trip with my colleagues and had a wonderful time, as Mr. Shankar said try to be independent as much as possible, Sometimes people may hesitate to take you for certain activities please don’t be dishearten, request you to understand what this activities are all are about ask someone to explain, then explain them how you can do those activities in a safest manner! However, Sometimes I doo wish if I had Vision because I love being alone sometimes really feel if I could go on tour on my own without anyone’s assistance, I know many sighted friends go alone and enjoy their trip at the same time, I do understand my limmitations! Re: [AI] how can a blind enjoy vacations?
Without any doubt go for the trip. I say there are 2 reasons for which u should and must go are- 1: blinds should try to make presence everywhere, like I never leave any opportunity if god provides me to see any movie in theater. 2: outing is not just for seeing, it is for a change, enjoying food and sencing a new time table with break of normal rutine. Re: [AI] how can a blind enjoy vacations?
Sazid bhai, I am totally blind by birth, but I understand your question in terms of acquiring late blindness. What is important at this point for you is to gain an understanding of the places you are likely to visit. From that, find out what interests you. I love food, drinks, sea shore, adventures etc. This will help you identify your interests. What you will be missing out is the ability to see the beauty of the places. And the only realistic answer I have is to find out the description using questions as a means from the people you are visiting with. Since you are late blind, you will be able to form a picture in mind using that description. So in that sense, it will be a mixed feeling. Feel free to ask such questions, as it is very important to have such discussions. I would personally love to know your experience. hi, along with your bag, take some music with you And prepare yourself to entertain people with the jokes, if you are good singer, keep ready with some good songs, if you no to play the chess, carry the board along with you. Don’t sit alone, sit with group of people, and start interact with them. And Play some memory games. Possible, when ever you here the new word from the language, try to learn the meaning and put it in to the context. Enjoy the road side food. Take some risk for example, if the group of people going for swimming, join with them!!! Don’t hesitate to hold the cane with your jurny. Be independent as much as possible. When ever you are committing with the riskey incidences example, sky walk, swimming, etc, ask people to take the picture and share on the social networking sights. And make sure that, you are getting likes!!! Don’t expect the privacy from the people. If you are health conscious, keep some medicines with you. throe all your negative thoughts and start packing your bags. Overall after the jurny, the trip should be remembered in your life.
