My humble request is that more information about events such as

a month ago. More transparency on such events would certainly be

nevertheless, I look forward to this one. I doubt they would let us
record anything inside the theatre unfortunately.

2010-03-17 Thread Yogesh

I would always rate 'Delhi-6' on top.
I am very much moved by 'arziyaan','Dil gira..','Rehna tu' and
'masakali'.
arziyaan is AR's song of my lifetime!!

1.Delhi 6
2.Jodha Akbar
3.VTV
4.Couple's Retreat
5.JTYJN
6.Ada
7.SDM
8.Yuvvraaj
9.Blue
10.Ghazini

Re: [arr] Re: Currently, rank order these ARR albums.

2010-03-17 Thread Ram Motipally
Alright guys, having seen so many responses, I also had to pool in my
thoughts. I have also tried to give one highlight about each album from my
perspective.

1) Delhi 6 - Excellent spread of variety. Arziyan is so soulful, only
bettered by Kwaja ji !
2) Jodha Akbar - brillant fusion of contemporary sound with old world tunes.
Khwaja ji is the most devotional song I have ever heard.
3) Slumdog Millionaire - given the movie context, amazing work. Dreams on
fire still rings in my head.
4) VTV - Brilliantly romantic !
5) Jaane Tu - Brilliantly romantic again !
6) Ghajini - Very contemporary sound. Kaise mujhe still pricks ones heart
with the love pain.
7) Couple's Retreat - ARRs first fusion for a Hollywood mainstream movie.
Kuru Kuru leaves a lasting impression
8) Yuvvraaj - Very different and grows on you only after a while, not our
bosses staple fare
9) Blue - something missing, never stuck me despite multiple attempts...gave
up finally.
10) Ada - total damp squib for me...sorry to the fans of this one

Today, 16 March 2010 at 1845 hrs my mentor, the 2 time Oscar and Grammy
award winner, Padmashri A.R.Rahman launched the audio of the Malayalam film
titled, Nayakan. It was a beginning that frankly I never dreamt of.
A.R.Rahman graciously accepted my request to handover the first copy of the
music cd, squeezing in time from his packed schedule. I’m ever greatful to
A.R.Rahman sir for inspiring and guiding me all through my career of music.
This launch means a lot to our entire team who has worked hard for the
album, the musicians, singers, recordists, engineers, studio facilitators,
producer and a visionary director.

The music and the background score for the film has been designed with a
very raw and rustic soundscape. Lolalamay, a soft number rendered by Preeti
Pillai is already scaling the music charts, and currently is the most
requested song on music channels. The other songs on the album, especially
the one sung by Indrajith is gaining popularity, and should work well for
him after the film releases.

An art and action film, it stars Indrajith in the lead and is directed by
Lijo Jose Pellissery. The music and original background score is scored by
Prashant Pillai. The album features 7 songs which features debutant Preeti
Pillai, the films lead Indrajith, and Renjini Jose. The audio is out on
Manorama Music. Grab a copy of the cd today.

Prakash hopes for brighter innings in 2010

MUMBAI: Vijay Prakash has been contributing to the Bollywood music scene for
close to a decade now and is slowly but steadily making his presence felt.

Hailing from a musicians' family in Mysore, the singer was exposed to
Carnatic classical music from an early age. "I was exposed to Carnatic music
for the initial 20 years of my life. But then there was an urge to explore
myself in different genres. I wanted to move out and test my skills on a
wider spectrum." The singer came to Mumbai and joined Suresh Wadkar as his
student in 1996 to learn Hindustani Classical music.

In 1999, Prakash took part in the Zee TV music reality show Saregama
Challenge then hosted by Sonu Nigaam then, where he was the mega finalist.
"It was a good platform to let yourself be known to the world," he says.

Prakash has lent his voice for over 3000 jingles for several top jingle
music directors including Leslie Lewis, Salim Sulaiman and several voice
overs. "But it is difficult to give justice to your talent in the 30-40
second jingle," says Prakash who has also sung for the background score of
movies like Main Hoon Na, Tere Naam, Krrish and some 40 other films.

The singer whose debut film was Baag for music director Ismail Darbar, got
his big break came when A R Rahman roped him to sing for Swades. He then
went on to sing for various music directors including Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
"My full fledged solo song was for Illayaraja for Cheeni Kum. All the songs
I had sung prior to this included multiple singers and I dint get noticed.
But nevertheless, it was a good experience working with such talented
people." The singer also got noticed for the raga based track Manmohini in
Rahman's Yuvraaj.

Prakash has also released 10-12 spiritual albums with Times Music before his
big moment of glory came with Oscar winning track 'Jai ho' for which he
mouthed the powerful words. The singer's moment of glory "I am greatful to
Rahman sir for giving me the break. After the song became such a hit I have
been offered to judge various reality shows in south and have also bagged
few projects down there."

The singer is hopeful that 2010 will help him bag plum projects in the
industry. "I am hoping to bag good solo projects in the year," adds Prakash.

Re: [arr] Royal Festival Hall THE MUSIC OF AR RAHMAN

2010-03-17 Thread Indmov Buff
I bought tickets for this event on the 19th of February (same day as it was
opened to the public as I wanted to get good seats) in the hope that I would
see AR perform with LPH. But only found out yesterday that I was wrong and that
he'd be part of the audience instead.
My humble request is that more information about events such as these should
probably be advertised/announced officially on Rahman's website a bit earlier,
given that the event tickets were open about a month ago. More transparency on
such events would certainly be useful, I feel. Not sure if anyone who's part of
the website development team is inthis group but just wanted to put my thoughts
across on this one. It would not have changed my decision on buying the ticket
but I wouldn't have got as excited as I did in the hope that AR would conduct
the LPH or even play an instrument. But nevertheless, I look forward to this
one. I doubt they would let us record anything inside the theatre
unfortunately.

[arr] Re: Currently, rank order these ARR albums.

2010-03-17 Thread Dinesh Scaran
agreed, new kind from ARR and ofcource in general. Masakalli had a very special
twist in the song, something unusual but gripping and catchy. This song stands
out clearly, no doubt. I do not wish 2 comments on other songs, as i dont want
to hurt the feelings of the lovers of the song and create a huge war here.
Already known enough there are some very 'well mannered' members around with
extremely 'polite' manner to express their view.

Anyhow, Yuvvraaj, VTV, ADA were albums of gold. Each seconds of the songs in
the album spells magic really well for me. Esp VTV and Ada. All the songs were
made out of gold. Truly happy to have these kinda albums around when 'kuthu'
and disco songs r the preferable choices of the people nowadays.

Re: [arr] Fought with friend – Teach him

2010-03-17 Thread ravi
As an AR fan learn 2 things
AR is an ambassador of peace and music is his medium.
Dont let or indulge yourself where a debate can turn unhealthy circumstances or
fight.
Debating is always good as long as both parties are benefitted with knowledge
from each other.

And coming to a "purest" Carnatic composition from AR I dont think he has done
it neither has any other MD where the substance is a film music of recent
times. One has to resort to what is called as "mishr" formation and AR is very
clever in doing it which many sarcastically call it "cunning way". The result
is half the people enjoy it and the other half who analyse finds his genius
hidden. What AR many times does it extracts (exploits) the blend of a raag and
carefully fuses it with other and this can be done by the only who are well
versed and have every raag in their mind always. And let your friend know that
to sustain himself at the peak for so long in an industry at time where there
are thousands of music directors are available requires ability and its not
just luck that supports.

[arr] Re: Currently, rank order these ARR albums.

2010-03-17 Thread Dinesh Scaran
i have clearly stated there its is not soulful in my definition. Lets put it
this way. These are some of the soulful songs from ARR for me, u may compare
them with Delhi 6 songs and see why i do not view them as what u do :

1.Anjali - Duet
2.Kannake Mai Azhagu - Pudhiya Mugam
3.En Uyir Tozhiye - KKS
4.Sonnalum - Kadhal Virus
5.Hawa Sun Hawa - Ada
6.Ennavale - Kadhalan
7.Marghali - Sangamam
8.Tu Muskura - Yuvvraaj
9.Hosanna - VTV
10.Hum Hai Iss Pal Yahan - Kisna
11.Kadhalenum - Kadhalar Dhinam

and ofcource the list can go on, but these r the 1 strike my mind for now. For
me, the songs of d6 r just not in the caliber of these songs. But im happy its
a hit for ARR and it has hit the right chords for many, good for him and for u
too. Its not a loss for u and its not a loss for me. ARR has compensate for me
more than enough with VTV. Cheerz
