Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Why Reclock If Using Low Jitter DAC

Our brains and our senses are tuned to identify tiny differences - that's what kept the species alive to-date. Difference!=better. Difference=different. You can easily detect differences in an A/B of some gear. Only by living with the gear over time can you decide if it really is better to your taste. Actually, *good* sound effects *do* need nice speakers. There's a lot more complexity and energy in the soundtrack of an action movie than in most music. ABX is intended to discover if a listener can detect a difference between A and B. If so it says nothing about which is the listener's preference. AB testing is intended to discover the listener's preference between A and B. It says nothing about which is better for other listeners i.e. the result is subjective. Most objections I've read to ABX and AB are not fundamental objections. They're about how particular tests are carried out in practice, for example the structure or length of the listening sessions. (Doing a long-term AB(X) isn't impossible, just difficult.) Re: [SlimDevices: Audiophiles] Which headphones?
Labarum;426070 Wrote: Searching for the Beyer DT770 seems to bring up a wide range of prices and a variety of different versions. Speaking of Beyerdynamic and AKG I had the oppurtunity to compare the AKG K701, Denon DH2000 and Beyerdynamic DT990, DT880 and DT770. It is certainly a matter of taste but I found the DT880 to be closest to neutral with not overempasiszing either end of the range and very nice detail. It's reproduction of voices is stunning. DT990 and more so DT770 emphasize lows and highs which may or may be not what you are looking for. I can recommend to listen to more than just one headphone as this wasn't quite what I expected. I nearly ordered an AKG701 before I had the hance to compare it to the Beyers and the Denon (which didn't impress me much). best Stefan -- skahde skahde's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30676 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=63677 ___ audiophiles mailing list audiophiles@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/audiophiles

Bottom line is they sound equally good to me, so my recommendation to anyone looking at a single-input music setup is not to bother with a preamp, get/ make yourself some decent attenuators and you're done (at a tiny fraction of the cost). @cliveb: how far are you able to turn down the volume via SC before experiencing noticeable degradation? -- egd Internet forums: conclusive proof depth of gene pool is indeed variable, monkeys can be taught to cut code, and world peace is utterly unrealistic... A poll associated with this post was created, to vote and see the results, please visit http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=64028 Question: To what is your Transporter connected - Preamp - Poweramp Thanks. That seems to confirm Clive B's view- i.e. no preamp is ideal, but the SCA 2 is so good, it is unlikely to have any audible 'signature'. I feel vindicated in adopting a minimalist approach. I use Rothwell fixed attenuators and currently have only a single source, which is the TP. I may add TV/DVD, but think I can get away with using the TP for this, so shouldn't need a preamp..? I have now replaced most albums with CDs,so it will be difficult to justify the cost of an SCA2 ( with phono stage), and a respectable turntable. There's probably no going back now, even though it would be nice to hear some of the old vinyl and find out if it really is 'better' than CD. The vinyl will probably stay in boxes for another 10 years.
