OT: CF Studio 5 resource windows

2003-11-17 Thread Jeff Beer
Studio has two file windows (file 1, primary and file 2, secondary).  Is
there any way to add more? I'd love to have four or five file windows
available as I bounce between RDS and FTP servers all day long.

I had this problem.  I think you downloaded the wrong installer.  I had
that problem.  I had downloaded it from one portion of the site and then
I got a different one and it worked.

We are tying to install cfmx (6.0 disk) onto a XP box (non sp2), and we
get an error that says

Error writing to the temporary location

in a dialog box with a blank button

32 gigs free, installed as the admin, everyone has write access to
C:\windows\temp

I found something in the archive that had the same problem, but no one
answered.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I downloaded the "trial" version from MM and installed it.  It'll
ask for a serial number when you install and you can just put that
number in and it should work.

Re: Suggestion for Windows HTML editor

2004-09-07 Thread Lawrence Ng
I'd stick with Studio.. using it for years and still do.

>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] 9/7/2004 12:07:33 PM >>>
I'm looking for a HTML/CFML editor for Windows with the following
requirements:

1. A projects system for easily managing a limited directory structure

regarding an individual project.  A simple file browser could suffice.

2. _Good_ syntax highlighting, i.e. able to highlight _javascript_ and
HTML and CSS in the same file.

3. Good basic features, similar to EditPlus
(http://www.editplus.com/).

4. Some sort of snippets / clip-book feature, for often-used code
snippets.  Ideally these should be programmable like NoteTab.

5. Small footprint as my laptop only has 64meg of RAM currently.

6. Code hinting, e.g. I enter
attributes.

I've gotten good enough with CFML and CSS that I really don't need
Dreamweaver's WYSIWYG facilities any longer and would like something
"light" enough to run on my new laptop at work (500Mhz P3).

In effect I'm looking for a cross between EditPlus (for its wonderful
basic functionality) and NotePad (for is programmability), with a few
extras.

Any suggestions?

I'm not interested in Eclipse as it is too big for me, and a little OTT

for basic text editing.

sorry. I did not clarify my response earlier. I'm using Studio 5 not the
Studio MX suite they have which includes Dreamweaver. I think it's not
longer in production. I like it because u could connect to datasources
with it and has a cleaner interface. I'm not a designer and that's why I
like Studio 5.

there use to be a free one called 1stPage but that was years ago which
had the same homesite/studio look to it.

Re: Suggestion for Windows HTML editor

2004-09-07 Thread Damien McKenna
OK, regarding Homesite, I've used it before but always found it a bit
bloated for what it gave you, and was a dead-end product.

HTML-Kit is very close to what I'm looking for, but its "workspace"
system seems confused (why can't you set a local directory to map to an
FTP site?).  Very close though.  There isn't much in the way of
up-to-date CFMX plugins/addons, but that could be remedied.

AceHTML, 1st Page, etc, the vast majority of web editors are
trimmed-down versions of Dreamweaver, i.e. focused on the WYSIWYG
aspects, which I don't care about.  Also, many of them don't support
CFML.

Ones I'm going to investigate:

- Sausage Software's HotDog.

- Homesite 5.5, might aswell give it another spin seeing as I already
have it.

Personally I wish that the EditPlus author would add some sort of
scripting support to his editor, then I'd probably be able to do lots
of fun stuff with it... all for $30.

2004-09-07 Thread Mike Kear
I can't see where Dreamweaver wont do everything you want.  Just
change to code view and you're home and hosed.

If that's still not what you want, try UltraEdit.  It has most of what
you want. It's lightweight, fast,  can handle files sizes as big as
your hard drive, has syntax highlighting, an FTP inbuilt,  can search
and replace over entire directories or disks if  you want.  It's
notepad on steroids, or Dreamweaver without the extras.  If you want
an all-purpose editor for a machine without a lot of RAM, UltraEdit's
the way to go.  (http://www.ultraedit.com)

Well then, in that case he can use the money he would have spent on
DreamWeaver and upgrade his memory so that he can run Dreamweaver!

Wait. I see a conundrum. ;^)

(As an aside: my vote is Homesite+ or CF Studio - still the best although
I've forced myself to switch to Dreamweaver just to see how I'd like it.  If
the damn thing could just show me a normal file listing I'd be almost
perfectly with it.)

RE: Suggestion for Windows HTML editor

2004-09-07 Thread Andrew Tyrone
Hi Damien,

I've been evaluating PrimalScript 3.1 and it looks like a winner.  Sam Neff
has mentioned it numerous times so I figured I'd check it out.  It does all
of what you are asking, and more.  Also, the download is under 4MB, and it
uses a little over 10MB on disk.  I just slapped a bunch of help files in a
separate directory (including CFMX ones from DWMX) and pointed PrimalScript
at them; very easy.  This gives you context help via the F1 key when you are
within a CFMX tag or function.  Also, "PrimalSense" is already configured to
give you the CFMX tag-insight popups you've come to know and love.  The only
thing it lacks for me is CSS support, but I use TopStyle 3.1 for that and I
love it.

There are plenty of ways you can customize this tool.  One I particularly
like is being able to have one of your "open documents" be an actual web
page, so you can keep a reference link on your toolbar handy to specific web
references and whatnot.  Another thing I like is you can have the icon
associated with each file type you open display next to the tabbed filename,
so it's easy to tell at a glance what file types are without looking at the
extension.

I like DWMX a lot more than I used to, but it's still a little quirky for
me.  One of the things Jim Davis pointed out is the file browser -- yech!  I
always mis-read what level I am on.  Also, I've found that DWMX always
freezes up for a minute every now and then when I work with a mapped drive
off my local server.  I know this to be the exact cause because I can work
locally for hours on end and that never happens (this is with the 7.0.1
updater).

One thing I WILL say about DWMX is that it encompasses all of these features
and more, and I really like the built-in CSS support, but I still find
myself gravitating away from it time and again.

I must say that I'm not sure I've ever seen this one before, but it is
really great!  It is _very_ similar to EditPlus only it seems to be a
bit more actively developed.  I'm going to send some suggestions to the

I tried that but..

1. The FTP system sucketh verily.  Instead of separating local vs FTP
files, FTP should be considered the destination to where local files
are uploaded to when completed.

2. It feels very kludgy, with so many plugins overlapping functionality
but many of them not doing everything they should.

.. to start with ;-)

Re: windows, services, and the JMC

2004-09-22 Thread Nathan Strutz
Yes, this is normal behavior. I suggest using the services panel to
start and stop your server, unless you just happen to be in the JMC and
just want to restart your server. This way, the services panel doesn't
get confused as to what is and is not running.

Also, when you say you have 2 jrun.exe processes, the JMC (administrator
service) runs one of these, and your CF server takes up another one, so
there's the two.

Re: windows, services, and the JMC

2004-09-22 Thread Douglas Knudsen
ah, ok.  I actually have 4 servers running, Default, Admin, CF, and
another CF named Portal.  So 4 servers running.  If I use a combo of
the JMC and the services MMC I can end up with 5 or more jrun.exe
processes.

I have custom jvmconfigs for each, if I use the JMC to start/stop each
does it use the custom ones defined via jrunsvc cmd?

OT: Damn gmail is low as kaywrap today!  I have a couple invites if
someone reads this.  emil me DIRECTLY only though.

I would ditch the default server, unless you use it. Also, the admin
should only run when you need it to, for security and to free up server
cpu and memory. If you're saying you still have JRun.exe's unaccounted
for, you can always end-process one at a time and see which servers go
down (the crapshoot is always a great idea!).

Running as a service starts with the same commands as hitting the start
button in the JMC. I'm not sure exactly what you're getting at. It
should pick up custom jvmconfigs, no problem.

CFMX6.1, Windows 2003, and verification failure

2004-10-20 Thread Dick Tuengel
We're installing CFMX 6.1 (with the latest Updater) on a set of new Windows 2003 Web
Edition Servers, fresh out of the box. CF is not finding our remote mail server
(Connection Verification Failed!), and it does not find data on mapped drives on our
LAN. We've changed the Logon privileges to ./Administrator, to no avail. It does find
the ODBC data sources, which are also on a remote server. We run similar
configurations - CFMX 6.1 and CF 5.0 - on Windows 2000 Server machines with no
problems. We know that there are significant differences between the default
services/permissions in Windows 2003 versus Windows 2000, but can't find anything
which should cause this problem. Has anyone else experienced this difficulty?

RE: Setting up Windows 2003 Server

2005-02-11 Thread Dawson, Michael
I just built one (domain controller) last night and another a couple of
days back.

The first thing I did, since it's a generic server running an AMD chip,
is to disable ACPI on the mobo. I have two servers that are similar and
W2k3 would get hosed every now and then. The event logs had repeated
warnings about unstability due to ACPI that was enabled on those
computers.

I generally blow away all partitions before the install.
Then, I create a single partition during setup (I create remaining
partitions using Disk Management)
I let setup run its course...
I log in as the admin
Run Windows Update FIRST!
Add App Server role
Run Windows Update
Install A/V
Copy i386 folder from CD to hard drive

(The following were not installed on the domain controller.)
Create IIS web sites
Install ColdFusion
Configure ColdFusion

W2k3 made the installation much simpler because you are not prompted for
as many settings as W2k.

I create very detailed documents each time I build a server for
production or even development use. That way, depending on network
speeds, I can rebuild my entire server in a couple of hours almost
exactly as before.

I would recommend that, before you run Windows Update, you either download
appropriate patches from another machine or that you create an IP security
policy to limit access to and from the machine to only the Windows Update
site and your DNS server. This minimizes the likelihood that you'll be hit
with anything between putting the server on a network and patching it fully.

This is a good idea, but I would recommend that you also look into scripting
configuration tasks whenever you can.

Second that. I have included the batchfile I use for that below,
it removes all existing policies, blocks everything, then allows
TCP traffic from remote port 80 and 443 and UDP from remote port
53. This is (currently) sufficient against all the common worms.

OT: Looking for Windows laptop recommendation

2005-02-12 Thread Bob Haroche
My Toshiba Tecra 8100 is dying on me and I'm looking for a new windows
laptop to develop on. Among a ton of other software, I'd like to run CF
server, SQL server, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Acrobat Publisher,
etc. In other words, I need a powerful machine with a decent graphics card.
Will run XP Pro and possibly some flavor Linux. In terms of what's most
important, I'm looking for power, reliability, battery life and weight in
that order. I like Dell's for running Office app's but not for developing
on. I am partial to Toshiba and am curious about Sony and Fujistu.

Any recommendations appreciated. Off-list is fine as this is clearly OT.
Thanks.

iMS-SE is a great replacement for CFMAIL and relying on an external email
server. iMS-SE allows you to either send mail directly to the final
destination or it can be configured to relay mail through any number of
external email servers in a linear or round-robin progression. It also can
provide real-time delivery status and email bounce processing.

It comes with:

High performance email sending engine
Bounce processsor
Secure Relay server (for sending mail with CFMAIL)
Scheduler server

This product is a variant of the server that powers the houseoffusion.com lists
including this one.

These are probably attempts by spammers to use your server as a
relay. Configure your firewall to block incomming connections on
port 25 from remote IP addresses and you will be fine.

mail and prevents my ISP from not sending out all my emails because I reach
a cap
that they put on how much email a user can send to prevent spamming...

Not sure if I mentioned or not but I do not offer email service to my
clients they usually get that from their ISP. I simply build sites and host
them for them. And in my sites I have some very basic features that send
emails from my server from the app but the apps are not email applications
like outlook or something like that. They ar esimple communication pieces.

CF 5 & Windows 2003 Web Edition

2005-04-02 Thread Seth Jacobs
I'm trying to get CF 5 running under Windows 2003 Web Edition. I found a
technote at Macromedia (www.macromedia.com/go/tn_18689) that provides
directions on how to get 5.0 can run under Windows 2003, but it doesn't
specifically mention Windows 2003 Web Edition.

I followed the instructions in the tech note, but when I click on the CF Admin
link, it goes to http://127.0.0.1/CFIDE/Administrator/index.cfm and displays
"The page cannot be found."

CF runs if I download version 7.

Any suggestions?

This error usually occurs either, when the windows registry has reached
its maximum capacity storing client variables, or when the server memory
is insufficient to buffer a file upload. Are you uploading large files?
If so, increasing memory might help.

If you have MSDN, it's in there along with Enterprise and Standard (on the
same CD, I think). Otherwise, you can purchase it separately.

You might consider installing a server operating system on a laptop, if you
plan to do a lot of these sorts of demos. I've run Windows 2000 Server and
Windows Server 2003 for quite some time on laptops.

Re: SQL Server on Windows XP

2005-01-11 Thread Troy Murray
MSDE will allow you to run your database but does not provide the GUI
tools to manage the datbase. This means you have to do your
administration through the command-line tools or through coding in
your CF app.

Microsoft offers a version of SQL Server 2000 for developers. The
cost is $49.95/developer and provides the GUI tools to administer the
database. You can use this version to develop and test your
applications. To me, demoing would fall under the term "testing".

Does anyone know if CF5 works with Apache 2 on Windows?

I am configuring a new server and need to know if I am going to run into any
serious problems.

CF5 does not support Windows 2003. Your easiest option would be to upgrade
to CFMX 6.1

You can get CF5 to work, I'm sure I saw some instructions on the
macromedia site somewhere, granted the installer won't set up IIS6
automatically for you, but you can do it manually.

RE: ColdFusion platforms : Linux versus Windows 2000

2002-11-29 Thread webguy
This is the same as any Linux v's windows web hosting debate so you'll get
lots of opinions.

Here are the issues as I see it

a) do know the same amount about each, and you have the same amount of
people in house that do
b) do you are confident in your security knowledge on both (or you are
willing to pay someone)
c) do you find both as easy to admin remotely
d) cost is not a issue
e) your app works in both
f) you have checked the status of verity on Linux (there where issues)
g) what are you developing on ? Linux ? or Win?
h) you are not thinking of using any 3rd party COM or Windows technology now
or in the future

Check out [EMAIL PROTECTED] and the cf Linux faq at macromedia.com
for more on cf & Linux.

Re: ColdFusion platforms : Linux versus Windows 2000

2002-11-29 Thread samcfug
I have CF 5.0 on my Linux box, and my SQL2000 database on another box running
Win2k. Using the ODBC driver that comes with CF, I am able to connect to the
SQL database and it works very well. I even set up a custom port which
side-steps all the port 1433 scans that seem to be the norm these days.

| Hi,

| I am about to set up a web application which has been developed in ColdFusion
on Linux using Microsoft SQL as the backend database.
|
| This application is now ready to go live, and we need to decide whether to run
the ColdFusion server on Linux or Microsoft Windows 2000, as we have equal
knowledge of both. The database will be sitting on a different server, so the
server will only be used to host the front-end application.

You can use cfexecute to shell out and call net.exe. Or pslist - check
out sysinternals.com for their pstools. (I believe that's the right

Re: getting info from Windows Task Manager

2002-09-18 Thread jon hall

CF can't talk to ADSI, so your going to have to use an external tool.
A simple COM object, command line tool, cfx tag or something similar
would be needed to grab the list of running tasks and return it to CF.

RE: windows .net server 2003 and cf

2003-02-12 Thread kazmiekr
When you are installing it and it asks you what web server you want to use,
after you select IIS, the next screen has problems. Its where you set the
path for CFMX and IIS. It shows the path to c:\CFusionMX ok, but for the
web files, all it shows is "/". When you try to change it an error message
stating that it can't find the path specified or something like that pops up
and the install fails. It looks like its not cooperating right with the new
version of IIS. We tried a couple times, but couldn't get past that error
and just gave up and installed it standalone for now.

When you are installing it and it asks you what web server you want to
use,
after you select IIS, the next screen has problems. Its where you set
the
path for CFMX and IIS. It shows the path to c:\CFusionMX ok, but for
the
web files, all it shows is "/". When you try to change it an error
message
stating that it can't find the path specified or something like that
pops up
and the install fails. It looks like its not cooperating right with the
new
version of IIS. We tried a couple times, but couldn't get past that
error
and just gave up and installed it standalone for now.

I certainly can't speak for MS (since I haven't gotten any notification they've bought

it isn't a supported platform for CFMX at this point.

While those instructions certainly may work, they involve editing the
registry to trick the wsconfig tool. It's worth noting that there's an
alternative approach, which has worked for me whenever I've had problems
with wsconfig - for example, after applying Updater 2 to CFMX running
against Apache 2.0.43.

The wsconfig utility is a runnable jar file. When you run it, it extracts
the appropriate module, places it in a directory, and configures your web
server to use the module. You can do this yourself, manually.

1. Copy \cfusionmx\runtime\lib\wsconfig.jar to wsconfig.zip.
2. Open in your favorite zip utility.
3. Extract the appropriate module.
4. Edit your web server configuration to use the module.

Of course, you have to be able to find the appropriate module, but they're
pretty clearly named within the jar file. You also have to know how to set
up your web server to use the module. In IIS, you can simply add the
appropriate ISAPI extension mapping in the Internet Service Manager; in
Apache, you have to add some lines like this to httpd.conf (note that there
will be differences depending on where you've placed the module):

LoadModule jrun_module "C:/CFusionMX/runtime/lib/wsconfig/2/mod_jrun20.so"

JRunConfig Verbose false
JRunConfig Apialloc false
JRunConfig Ssl false
JRunConfig Ignoresuffixmap false
JRunConfig Serverstore
"C:/CFusionMX/runtime/lib/wsconfig/2/jrunserver.store"
JRunConfig Bootstrap 127.0.0.1:51010
   #JRunConfig Errorurl
AddHandler jrun-handler .jsp .jws

Now, there's one missing piece, but so far it hasn't made any difference
that I've seen. That's the creation of a "/jrunscripts" web server mapping.
When you run wsconfig with IIS 5, that gets mapped to the directory
containing the module. Does anyone know exactly what this is for? It doesn't
seem to matter if it's omitted, as far as I've seen.

Finally, I mentioned setting up the connector module as an ISAPI extension.
It can also be set up as an ISAPI filter, but I've stuck to using the ISAPI
extension, personally.

RE: windows .net server 2003 and cf

2003-02-12 Thread kazmiekr
We just got cfmx working with IIS6 on .NET after trying a bunch of different
things. We uninstalled our existing cfmx installation and removed all the
folders and then did the following.

First Attempt
We decided maybe we could fool the cfmx installer by changing the registry
before we installed it by changing the "Major Version", "SetupString", and
"VersionString" to values from an IIS 5 install. But the install still
failed at the same spot. So we just installed it as standalone.

Second Attempt
We copied the wsconfig.jar file to wsconfig.zip and extracted the jrun.dll
for the windows isapi folder of the file. Then we created an extension
mapping is IIS for .cfm to that dll file. That didn't seem to work for us,
but we may have missed a step somewhere on that one.

Third Attempt
We just followed the directions from that link I send
earlier(http://phydiux.com/cfmx_and_IIS6/) and we got it to work just fine.
We just copied the cfide directory to inetpub\wwwroot and everything was
working fine.

So that's what we did to get it to work, granted we did go changing the
registry and that's not always a good idea. I am sure there are other ways
to get this working.

OT: Searching CFM files in Windows XP

2003-02-16 Thread Nick de Voil
Hello everyone,

I'm sure this must be in the archives but I can't find it.

I've only had XP on my desktop machine for a couple of months.

My Documents > Search > A word or phrase in the file

doesn't work for me. It doesn't find the occurrences of the word. If I
search the same set of folders for the same word on W2K it works. I never
had this problem on NT or W98 either.

I found this using Google

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_bad_search.htm

but I can't believe that I need to edit the registry in order to get such an
elementary operating system feature to work in market-leading software that
was released well over a year ago.

Any ideas?

Nick

its elementary, and still in there.

Start ---> Search ---> All Files and Folders ---> All or Part of the
File Name ---> *.cfm

hit enter, and it will default to searching all of the local hard drives
you have.

have you tried this?

RE: Searching CFM files in Windows XP

2003-02-16 Thread Tony Weeg
what about just using cf studio's, global search feature.

you can search within those types of files, and since
you are in the ide that cf is best manipulated in, you can
even do search/replace with that feature.

RE: windows .net server 2003 and cf

2003-02-24 Thread Adrocknaphobia Jones
That's what I'm doing this weekend. I'll post an update on how it all
turns out. I'm going to install CFMX on win2k3 RC2. I have a feeling
looking at Kazmierczak's post that it won't setup IIS correctly since
it's a new version. But I'll bet it can be done manually.

[OT] CFID and CFTOKEN on POPUP Windows

2003-02-28 Thread Greg McDaniel
I have a CF App with pop-up windows. The pop-up
windows call server side tags and SQL.

Is it better to have the pop-up windows generate
their own CFID/CFTOKEN pairs, or do they need
to use the same pair as the parent window?

if anyone had any code examples I would really appreciate it...

I assume its javascript?

you could wrap the code around the section that calls the code for
example:-)

Of course this stops the javescript from every running again, I think that
is what you are trying to do.

FYI, we're testing the Windows 2003 final bits with CFMX + Updater 3 in the next day

IIS6, but we'll post something as soon as we have results and instructions on getting
it going.

Cold Fusion on Windows 2003 Server Standard

Well after trying Cold Fusion MX server times on Win 2003 server and reading
the "hack" to get it to wok I have given up. I did get Cold fusion to work

WOT: Tree select like Windows Backup | Restore

2003-01-06 Thread Aidan Whitehall
Apologies for the OT, but I bet someone here knows the answer...

I'm after a JavaScript, Java applet, Flash object, COM object, whatever,
which allows the user to select either one or multiple parent or child
nodes in a tree view and visibly have the selection ripple down through
the tree.

Ideally, it would be almost identical to the tree view window used in
Windows Backup | Restore, but we need to be able to ensure that multiple
parent nodes cannot be selected, only multiple child-most nodes (if that
makes any sense).

Thanks, and sorry again for the OT.

RE: ColdFusion and Javascript - pushing browser windows

2003-01-29 Thread Ben Doom
I suppose that it depends on what you mean by 'push'. You can certainly use
javascript to do things like set a timed refresh.

As far as doing a server-side push of data (for example whenever it updates)
I don't know of a way to do that with pure CF and JavaScript, but I'm sure
there are a number of ways to fake it.

RE: ColdFusion and Javascript - pushing browser windows

2003-01-29 Thread Haggerty, Mike
Like Ben said, we need to know what you mean by 'push'.

One example of 'push' that I used and might be helpful (and since you are
using Flash) was to set up a Web resource that Flash can check to see if a
page needs to be loaded. I used the loadVariables command to check a Web
resource at regular intervals to see if an alert needed to be loaded on a
user's PC.

By Web resource I mean either a Web service or a Web page. In this case, the
value returned by the Web resource was a datetime value and a url to the
alert page that needed to be loaded. The Flash movie would compare the
datetime returned by the Web resource with the datetime the movie was
loaded, and, if the one returned by the Web resource was greater, the Flash
movie would trigger a javascript that would load a new window and show the
alert page.

Hopefully, this helps.

Subject: ColdFusion and Javascript - pushing browser windows

Hello group -
I am only in proposal stage for one of my clients - but they requested
that they be able to push .cfm pages through to clients browsers. I
searched a bit - but am at a total loss for a starting point.

I am using access databases - lots of cookies and session vars for
different features and flash 6 player -
I don't know if anyone knows any tricks or articles on the matter.

I assume it must be done with quite a bit of javascript.. any ideas? any
leads are greatly appreciated. thanks jay
