Kelly: you up and running? Between moving things and running the road, you wouldn't think so, but I'm still here. Gonna make another trip tomorrow night, then one more week in Big "D"before departing for the "Ranch" for the duration. My Elky needs a new carb...five years is good for an Edelbrock 600 I hear...gonna have to wait til we get settled though...no time to change it now. Other than that, it's running good. RE: [Chevelle-List] more 69 El Camino questions
Thanks Larry. I was able to find the info about rears and production totals very easily. I know what you're saying about free not being cheap. I would have been better off paying $200 for the car than having a $275 bumper job dented, but you have to roll with these things. I also don't want to start the old argument about how you're better off spending more money for one that's in better condition. It's a hobby. I enjoy it, and I like rescuing solid cars out of the boneyards. Both of my 1968 Oldsmobiles were pretty trashed when I bought them too. Wrenching on them and seeing them come back to life is half the fun. The other half is when people admire it and you know that it only looks and runs so well because of what you did to it. -Original Message- john: welcome aboard. try chevelles.com for most of your questions.some times "FREE" isn't cheap. larry

[Chevelle-List] more 69 El Camino questions
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Well, since I'm new here and have a new toy to play with, I also have some questions. As I mentioned earlier, a picture of the car is at http://johnnasta.com/elcamino/1.jpg Does anybody know how many 69 El Caminos were made (or to go one step further, how many of them came with 350s)? Any idea of the values in #1 - #6 condition? Also, you can see in the photo that it has vertical bumper guards. I have heard conflicting stories, some saying that these are very rare and some saying that they are not. Does anybody know? I'm actually thinking about going without them because I think it would look better, but if they were a rare option maybe I should keep them. Any opinions on that? Finally, does anybody know what gear ratio would be in the rear? I haven't had a chance to look into it. Thanks, John Nasta p.s. Want to know what I paid for it? Well, I was supposed to pay $300 for it, but then he sold the transmission so we dropped it to $200. Then when I came to get it, one of the guys working there backed into my Olds and put a small dent in the rear bumper. I had just had those bumpers re-chromed about a month earlier, which ran about $275 each, so we settled on him giving me the El Camino for fr*e to make up for it. Unfortunately for the guy who hit my Olds, his boss said it would come out of his pay. It actually was not a bargain for me either since it will cost me more to get that bumper redone again than I was supposed to pay for the El Camino. At that point I just wanted to get the deal over with though. - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
RE: [Chevelle-List] new member / carb question
Replies to this message are sent to The Chevelle Mailing List Thanks for the welcome(s) and the replies. The guy who is selling the two Q-jets said he would snap some digital pictures tonight and send them to me. I should be able to tell from the pictures whether or not they will bolt up, but he doesn't know how many CFMs they are. He is not asking a whole lot, so maybe I'll take my chances. The only down-side is that the longer I take to get this carb thing sorted out, the longer the car sits, and I'm anxious to get it running. I was going to buy a new Carter AFB 600 CFM from Jegs for about $200, but if one of these used ones will work, I can save a lot of $$. To answer Tim's question, I live in Brooklyn, NY but I found the El Camino in Charlotte, NC and towed it back on a trailer. It seems some guy bought it as a running car just to pull the 350 out and rebuild it for an 85 Camaro. Then he junked the body. What a fool to pick apart a running, numbers-matching classic! Then the guy at the yard sold the transmission, which at that point was less of a loss. If I could have, I would have paid the original guy not to pull the motor. I'm sure there are plenty of 350s out there in wrecked cars that he could have rebuilt. It does have all of the emblems on it, although some of them should be replaced. Luckily I found it before it got completely picked over. - To Unsubscribe please visit www.chevelles.net/list.html To start a new topic, send mail to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

You can see a picture of what it looked like the day I found it at: http://johnnasta.com/elcamino/1.jpg Since then I've torn down the whole nose (even took the cobwebs off the bumper & headlight doors), cleaned up the inner fenders & rad support & painted them, replaced the entire front end & painted it all with POR-15, I also painted the from legs of the frame and the firewall with POR-15, and I've replaced the shocks & springs. I bought a Turbo 350 transmission and I am currently building a 283 4bbl (1958 block w/ later heads w/ hardened x-valve seats, stock pistons & cam). So, here's the question. I know a guy selling two Q-jet carburetors: 17057216 AWT 3256 and 17080298 1952 DNO I believe the first one is a 1977 casting number and the second is probably a 1983 casting. My paint guy has been doing cars for almost 30 years and was doing Chevelles when they were almost new fron collision work. He was very impressed with the tape kit.
