Re: [Chevelle-List] Thrust bearing failure

2002-12-28 Thread ChevelleYenko
I have heard of this same problem and it turned out to be a clogged oil hole passage. The BB Chevy has oil holes cross drilled in the block. Some have pipe plugs on the end of the holes one goes thru the oil filter area. Also on the back of the block if the pipe plugs go in too deep it can close off the oil hole.

No, don't remove those rivets. That "post" is the
swivel part of the window. If you have to crank your window open I'm not sure
how it comes out. Pull your door panel and you should be able to see how it's
connected. I'll look in a couple of my books and see if I can find any info. I'm
sure it's not difficult to do.

PREYes there were about 37 Yenko Novas sold in 1969 all were big block. Most had
a 427/425hp transplanted in but there is some evidence that a few were left
as 396/375hp. The 69 Yenko Camaro and Chevelle were factory 427 COPO cars but
the 69 Nova was not. They started out as SS 396/375hp cars. In 1970 Yenko
ordered LT1 COPO Novas to build the Yenko Deuce.

E-Bay support are a bunch of jock wads with no brains and no sense. They
will not respond and if they do they will tell you they see nothing wrong.
They are a billion dollar a year corporation who primary objective is to
make money. Do you think that they are going to scorn this guy who makes
them about 1,000.00 on month in commissions. Look at the Power seller logo,
this means he does over 2,000.00 a month in e-bay sales and gets to have
that on his site. E-bay does not care about the little guy who gets burned
by a seller and you basically have no re-course in the matter also. The
seller has all the advantages to the buyer. When you buy from a seller you
put your trust in him that what he sells its what you expect to get, but if
it doesnt meet your expectations your screwed. And if your purchased your
item through Paypal you have no re-course either, t! hey do not get your
money back on items that do not meet the description, if its not as
advertised your screwed again. So the only re-course you may have is to give
the guy a negative feedback, but with over 5,000 positives what is one more
negativeJust my opinion.Have bought many things from him
and returned a few as well with no problems. Maybe the guy is on vacation or
away on business ( this is normally e-bay's response ) Good Luck

[Chevelle-List] Horsepower TV

2002-12-28 Thread Clint Hooper

Was just watching HP TV and they had a short
feature on Chevell-abration 2002. I'm definitely going to take a weeks vacation
in early June next year. Man,there must be some serious hardware on display
there.

Definitley worth it, I took my 70 down to Nashville last year and had a blast, well except for when I blew the tranny up at the race track, but other than that no complaints. I already have my room reserved for next year, so word of advice, call the local hotels down there now and get a room reserved ASAP.

Re: [Chevelle-List] Thrust bearing failure

2002-12-28 Thread Don

Bill,
Check the oil pump carefully. It must be
seated properly.
Also I'd have the crank "mic'd" to ensure
that it hasn't been turned. If it has, you have to have the proper undersize
bearings or they'll go out everytime. It also may need to be turned if it's out
of round or has any rough spots. Both will cause bearing
failure.
Another thing is check the end play of the
crankshaft with all bearings installed. If the crank is moving back forth
it'll kill the thrust bearing.
These are just some ideas, hope they
help.
Don

Has anyone on the list ever
experienced thrust bearing failure in a big block?

I have been through my engine
three different times and installed three sets of main bearings. Today I fired
it up after completely disassembling it and painstakingly measuring everything
and reassembling it again. It immediately began to chew up the thrust face of
the rear main. I find what looks like gold pearl in the oil filter almost
immediately. I’ve tried three different torque converters and two different
  transmissions with the same results.

Oil pressure is 60+ pounds warmed
up and this time I chamfered the rear main to provide more oil to the thrust
  face. Still no fix.

I’ve never been this close to
giving up on a project in my life. I love building engines because usually
they are logical creatures…not this one. I’m ready to start over with a new
block and rotating assembly, I don’t know what else to do. I have not been
able, nor have my racing, engine building and machine shop friends been able
to figure out why this motor hates its thrust bearing.

Someone help me before I build
that big block Ford I have in the garage to put in my
  Chevelle.

According to the GM PA book, C.A.C. is Car Air Conditioning (All Weather, 4 season, Deluxe) and was the regular side control A/C system you ~normally~ see (RPO C60) and used assembly line installed A/C components and is mixed with the heater.  The lesser type of A/C was the dealer installed "hang on" (called Comfort-Car and has no RPO since it was dealer installed) that had the dial operated box hanging under the dash and didn't route ducts up in the dash or in the kick panels - sort of like http://www.team67.com/1967/gallery/survivors/gold_malibu_dash_inside.jpg.  These were different styles as the dealer often either bought them through different suppliers or farmed them out for installation.  The one in the picture above has the knobs side-by-side and the one in a 67 Chevelle dealer brochure has the knobs arranged one over the other

AFAIK, C.A.C. is comfotron air conditioner, which is the type that can be set by a little dial with temperature numbers on it rather than by a slider that just says hot cold.

My Detroit Iron CD for 67 ususally has parts listings for 64-72 stuff but in this case it doesn't.  What it does show is for 14.630 group, the panel:

66 Malibu (exc. Sta. Wag., 4-Dr. Sed.)  4474360 R.H. (only one shown)

67 Chevelle (exc. C.A.C.) 7680402 R.H.

Hi Jason,

As long as the 67 kickpanels fit my 66 and look like they fit, I'm
not too concerned about the quality of the speakers. I like how
thepanels look like theyweren'thackedup to fit the
speakers. If the speakers sound that bad, I can always get a better
pair. I would prefer to buy the panels w/o the speakers, but for some
reason the Chevelle model is the only one not available w/o speakers.

Of course, if I was building a different kind of car, then that's the one

[Chevelle-List] Chevelle - Chevy's Mid Sise Muscle - Mag

2002-12-28 Thread KEhrhardt
Hi All,
I just picked up another of those "Chevelle - Chevy's Mid-Size Muscle" mags at the local supermarket. Maybe you guys know already, but I figured I'd give the group a heads up so you guys wouldn't miss it. Looks like it is published by Super Chevy. BTW, looks like the first article is an installation of the Air Ride Technologies system into a Chevelle. How's that for a coincidence?
