No mullet here either. I did have long hair for a while, but it was not a mullet. More like the 60's hippy "I just never cut it at all" look. You all should check out the El Camino Dudes web site. Title: Message 48, got my first and only Chevelle in May 2001. Always loved the look of them. I can remember a guy in my neighborhood that had, I think, a 71 SS454 that would knock the socks off any and all comers around town. When I started looking, I liked the looks of the 70 versus 71 or 72. I also like the looks of the 67 but I found the 70 first. John L. Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
You have to be careful using wording as it has different meaning depending on where you are from. Around here a Mullet is a fish mostly used for bait, but some old timers also use that term for their "Johnson". I have an Elky, but a very conservative hair style and don't know anyone with their "mullet" on their head. Re: [Chevelle-list] ] Age of the Chevelle owners
Hi, I'm 47, prematurely gray. People ask if I bought my 64 new! : ( First 64 Chevelle came in 77 when I was in Orlando Florida. Courtesy of US Navy that car went through every state between Florida and Massachusetts. (Fla, Ga, SC, NC, Va, Del, Md, Pa, NJ, NY, Conn, RI, Mass) Fast forward 20+ years: The rust had caught up with it. 330,00 miles on odometer! Saw it rollover twice. The money spent to fix that one would probably take care of the other three Chevelles so it had to go. Sold her to a professional welder, best chance for a car that needed so much sheetmetal replaced. A pro street project I suspect. Didn't ask, didn't want to know. Still have the 2dr wagon, 4dr sedan, SS hardtop, all 64's. Pete Geurds Douglassville, PA Were 58 years young, had my frist Chevelle in 68 was a 65 SS 327/4 speed 300HP put it arouind a tree in 69 and made a dirt Late model dirt racer out of it.. Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
With regard to the 68 being a red headed step child, it's kinda like the "thru cars" in the Tri Five group . Everybody refers to them as the 55 thru 57 Chevy which makes the 56 the "thru car". Never talked about but definately there. Red headed step child. But seen some of them grow up into good looking red heads - so never underestimate the potential or the unusual. I am 55. My first Chevelle was a 65 SS 327 4sp convert. What a car. It was a warmed over 327 and really flew. About 6 years ago, my son and I bought another chevelle, a 72. It was a basket case and if I had it to do again would have started with something a little better shape. We have learned a lot, have finally put the body back on the frame and ready to drop the original 307 back in and then off to the body shop. However, the EC sat in my brother's driveway for about 2 years until his wife got tired if looking at it, and I always liked 69s. So, I bought it back from bro Joe (methinks I never fully paid him for it), and put it back together. It is now very respectable and in full service. I was just thinking the other day that I should have taken pictures on days like when I was using it to haul lumber in rain and snow, or the day I had a whole pallet plus a few boxes of Pergo flooring in the back. ...

My Dad is the 3rd owner. Original owner was the funeral home in Tomahwak, WI, sold to a local farmer, who used it on his farm which is near our families vacation property. At times it was filled with corn cobs. The rear suicide doors had been sprung past and flattened out the rear fenders. My Dad bought it in 1961 and spent the next 1.5 years doing a complete frame off restoration promising the farmer that he would not hot rod it - the farmer had seen some of my Dad's creations that were brought up to the families place to die a painful death. All body work was done with heat and body mallets. 40+ years later it is still pristine and has been kept in a heated garage. The last 20 years it's had it's own, enclosed, heated, dust proof, storage room in his basement (indoor ramp connects garage to basement - I stole the same concept). It has some unique features for it's day - twin ignition, worm gear rear end, safety glass, automatic chassis lubrication system. Young farts? I'm 71 and been waiting for someone even near my age to show up on this thread! I've owned 5 Elkys thru the years starting with a 65 and I've advanced all the way up to the 68 I own and drive daily now. Getting harder and harder to crawl under 'em these days but I was just under the 68 about an hour ago. - Original Message - From: Dave Corgill To: The Chevelle Mailing List Sent: Monday, April 25, 2005 8:46 AM Subject: Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners Boy Ya'll are a bunch of young farts, I'm 60 bought my66 Malibu in 1994 then added a 1964 Elky & then addeda 1966 Elky. RE: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
I'm 42 and I originally bought my El Camino for my brother, because he said he always dreamed of having one. Personally, the one I would have "dreamed" about would have been a 69 convertible. However, the EC sat in my brother's driveway for about 2 years until his wife got tired if looking at it, and I always liked 69s. So, I bought it back from bro Joe (methinks I never fully paid him for it), and put it back together. It is now very respectable and in full service. I was just thinking the other day that I should have taken pictures on days like when I was using it to haul lumber in rain and snow, or the day I had a whole pallet plus a few boxes of Pergo flooring in the back. ...

Sorry, I forgot that my first Chevelle was a 67 Malibu 2 dr. I landed that one for $100 out of a city towing yard that had been abandoned. Other than the wore out 283 it just had run out of gas. Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
After having many different makes of cars a friend I worked with drove up one morning in 1979 in a 1968 El Camino that he had and announced it was for sale, I was 36 at the time. I purchased it, rebuilt the 327 and replaced the power glide with a 350T, Holley intake and carb and drove it until someone offered me a lot of money for it. I am 62 now and have a 72 El Camino SS and a 72 Monte Carlo for the wife. Both completely rebuilt in my shop. D.R. That's what I like to hear. Once you get some funds, a place and the car you want it's a beautiful thing. I met a man at the car wash that said his wife wanted him to sell the Cutlass S. I saw his kid and told him that the car was the one thing that a man can do for his kid. Something to have in common and will keep the kid off the stuff that is bad (hopefully) and to have a skill and goals just like what you said below. Sorry this was so long. Since I missed the job part because I've been lurking the list for a while I'll answer both questions ;-) I'm 40-years old working as a process manager at a digital printer. I bought my Chevelle with a 402 (408) BB (approx 400 hp), Th 350 and a 12-bolt diff in the spring of 2003! I guess I'm also having a second childhood ;-) I originally come from the Swedish countryside where "older" American cars are quite common as a sort of Swedish sub-culture (often reffered to as "raggare") And I guess it was my roots that drove me to by some American muscle ;-) Best regards Pelle __Chevelle gearheadshttp://hem.bredband.net/chevellegearheads/ - Original Message - From: bob howard To: Chevelle-list@chevelles.net Sent: Monday, April 25, 2005 4:54 AM Subject: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners Just sitting here thinking about the average age of the Chevelle guy or gal> Last week everyone wondered what everyone did for a living, I just wondered what the ages are,and when they got their fist Chevelle. Krister: This story is why I asked about ages of owners. I never really thought about my grandkids till I was 50. I can leave them money guns (they love to shoot) and the like ,but the best thing I can give them is truth, and my word is always good! But the love of old cars is one that is important to me and I'm sure most of you all. And it looks like most of my age guys and gals want the same thing. Re: RE: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
The picture doesn't due justice, but it's the only one the NASH Car Club had on put on their website. Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
I am 63 ...and today is the first full day (24 hours) That I have NOT had a Chevelle in my garage since I got out of college in 1967(sold my 68 yesterday)...My oldest son however is rebuilding his 68 and told me that I am more then welcome to visit his car ...(if I just work on it a little) I am Not in extreme withdrawal yet...but I have the feeling another Chevelle will be in the garage before the summer ends...and to be truthful it will be a turn key car...been there done that over the years now is the time to just drive and maintain the car... I did not answer the what I did for a living...because I just sit on the porch and wait for the retirement checks (believe that and I'll tell you another one..) Bob Griffiths

RE: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
I ordered my first Chevelle as soon as I got out of the service. Couldn’t wait to get to the dealer and order that 70 SS 396, 375 hp beauty. Then I called my insurance agent and rushed back and changed the order to a full size lower key car. I finally got my 70 Chevelle April 2001 and I’m 58. Kind of still pressing it with my daughter attending Purdue University, but I couldn’t pass up the deal I found in Kentucky for the car. Wife is still you know what about the car and has only been in it three times since I got it. Her lose! Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
Hi, My Dad bought his 67 SS in 69 when I was 4, it is the car that warped me for life...I now own it. My first drivable 67 Malibu was purchased in '86. I had been building a 383 and needed a chassis and my uncle in WV knew of the car that was for sell. We hauled the engine down and spent a week getting it running and drove it the 400 miles back home. I just hit 40 this year and while I have the 67's on the back burner, I am putting a 69 Malibu together as a driver, nice rust free western car I just got last fall, it is in much better shape than what you get in a car from Indiana. Re: [Chevelle-list] Age of the Chevelle owners
I'm 50, and I got my first '71 Malibu in 1974. At that time I didn't do much work on the car other than tune ups, oil changes, and a clutch. I bought my second '71 Malibu in 1999, which is virtually identical to my first car (see http://www.eagleshore.com/bear/bear.htm). But with help from this list and some friends, I'm learning the art of car restoration and modification. I'm confident enough now to have actually purchased another car ('66 Elky) to work on while I drive the Malibu. Tom Tomlinson

40 and I just bought my second Chevelle, 1968 Malibu. I bought my first Chevelle in 1982. It was a '68 SS that had been "relieved" of it's 396, there was a 383 stroker with LT-1 heads in it's place.I traded it in on a 280Z.still kicking myself.
