Tim,

I have been advised that the CID 3.0 exam is a really good starting point
for passing the CCIE written. If so, what would you advise brushing up on

640-445 SNAM

2000-12-07 Thread Stevan Pierce

As prep for the CCIE, I am scheduled to take the Global Knowledge class of
SNA Config for Multiprotocol Admins on Dec 18th-22nd,
http://db.globalknowledge.com/catalog/course.asp?course=5600&cat=6 I was
wondering what opinion people might have regarding not only the class, but
the provider as well.

Also, has anyone taken the test for Cisco for the SNA #640-445 and if so
what can you tell me, without violating the NDA.

Re: Aironet Wireless

I would aquire the Omni-Directional Access Point Antenna as this should
allow the bridge to receive radio strength better. Also, check the
surrounding area to see if there are any devices that might cause a
disturbance with the bridge's communcation.
Also, you might want to get a lightning arrestor,

Your comment below, "...after you pass CID, you are ready for the ccie

and how much more prep is necessary?

At present moment, I am studying to "pass" the CID when I was browsing this
newsgroup and read your post. While I know that the more I learn the better
I am, I was just curious to how close to the CID the CCIE written is.

Re: why the prompt is different for 5505 switches? any one know?

2000-08-08 Thread Stevan Pierce

1) If your colleages sent you the config files from the 5505 switch fabric
then it would look similar to the second line "somertarou>(enable)";
however, your colleagues sent you the config off of the supervisor engine.

2) To get the to the switch fabric, get the address of the fabric and telnet
to that.

Re: host name to IP address resolution

2000-08-10 Thread Stevan Pierce

Jason,

Since you did not specify if you were trying to ping NetBIOS name or DNS
name, I am going to assume that you were trying to ping the NetBIOS name,
but will also give an explanation of trying to ping the DNS name.

NetBIOS
To avoid confusion on the server when pinging by NetBIOS name, the server
will respond only to the primary IP address bound to the NIC; however, you
can define multiple NetBIOS names to multiple IP addresses via a HOST file
or WINS. The fact that the interfaces were down tells me that someone did
not know what to do with the IP addresses and stuck them there OR was
playing around.

DNS
One of the reasons behind adding multiple IP addresses to a server would be
to define multiple web sites to a server, shared hosting. Is there IIS or
its equivalent running on the box? If yes, then you have your
answer-multiple web sites

Re: Ethernet Troubleshooting Woes

2000-08-10 Thread Stevan Pierce

John,

You may have already answered your question by asking it to the group.
"Bring a PC back to the switch room and connect it to any port and the
program runs as advertised. So, I'm not going to waste my time with that.
I've also considered replacing the NIC in the server since we're seeing
errors coming from it, but that would not explain the problems we're having,
anyway, so that is probably pointless. any ideas?"

What is the one thing that you are eliminating when you brind the PC to the
back room with the switch?? Yes, that's right-CABLING! I am going to
assume that you are using fresh cable for this and the cable happens to be
Cat5.

As far as an expensive company to install this, do it yourself or find
someone. I used to work for a company that installs cabling in nearly any
part of the US. If you are interested, I can have someone from the
organization call you and quote a price to you. Install some new cabling,
Cat5, and spend about $20 a NIC and viola-you have 100 full to the desktop.
Users will love you; and, then you will able to spend more time studying or
cruising the Internet

Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

BCRAN Requirements

I have read the PDF from the Exam Outlines section at cisco.com, but have a

Also, how many questions and the minimum score?

something that has not been addressed are the NICs in the servers. Compaq
server NICs are particularly bad when using redudant links. It is best
advised that you disable the heartbeats on those puppies and possibley
reboot the server after doing so.

let me know if this works.
