The EOL URL referenced below is, in my opinion, one of the most incomplete
"lists" on CCO. Use it as a starting point by all means, but don't rely
on it to cover everything that has been EOL'd, because it doesn't.

(Actually, it appears to be a little more complete now than it used to be
- but it's still pretty hopeless).

First off, let me "pre-apologize" for my following statements to everyone in

Geez... what an ass! That notwithstanding, I would beg to differ.
Quite possibly, the biggest part of participating in this group is to find
out what people "think".

> The last of the 2900XL series were discontinued on Nov. 1st, 2001.

Given the information below, apparently we should disregard what you "think"
you "know" even after you "thought" you had all of the facts. The fact is,
no one can no everything, and until one knows everything, anything that one
might say is no more than "thought", speculation and conjecture. So why
don't you lighten up, eh? At least I realize my abilities as a "mere
mortal" enough to qualify my statements with "I think ..." instead of
attempting to belittle people (which you obviously tried to do) whilst being
convinced that all information that you may spew forth is absolutely correct
(which was obviously what you thought).

(Just so you know, I searched the EOL page for the 3 models of switches
listed below and they are indeed not there. So "it would appear" ( Hold

Another thing to consider about the 2950's, which may or may not be

There is no such thing as a 2950XL or a 3550XL. The 'XL' designation only
exists for the 2900 and the 3500.

Has Cisco discontinued the 2900 XL series switches? If so, what are other
good alternatives for the 2900XL series?

I have a client with a small network about 100 users. At present the
internal network is @ 10MB/s and will be upgrading to 100MB/s. There are 2
file servers, 2 app servers and users do big CAD file transfers. The budget
for switches is around $4K.
The plan is to move the users in 2 differ VLANs depending upong their
departments and have a 80/20 rule for the traffic.
