Re: Stus-List Atomic 4 replacement

2019-12-24 Thread rick bushie via CnC-List
Ian,

Last winter I pulled Anchovy’s A4 out. I built a cradle out of scrap 2X lumber
to slide the engine onto as it left the engine bay.

If you unbolt the A4 style mounts from the rails, instead of unbolting the
mounts from the engine, the engine will simply slide right out.

Remember to remove as much as possible prior to beginning…starter,
manifold/carb, alternator, etc.

As a fat guy in my 57th year, I had little trouble moving the stripped motor
around by hand.

Good luck,

Respite is supposedly in Annapolis. She is actually listed on FaceBook

I appreciate the offer Andrew, but they are both in my general area.

It’s just a weird situation…we’ve been flirting with the idea of a bigger boat
off and on. This weekend we went to a local broker (Riverside) who was
offering free show tickets for anyone who showed up to browse their in-water
offerings. They had Vamp on their listing sheet but it wasn’t there to see.
When I got home, Respite showed up on my Facebook wall.

Hope it’s not a sign!

Gordon,

Anchovy’s strut broke in half a few years back. First I looked for a direct
replacement to the bolted on strut. When that failed, I had the old strut
braised back together. It was beautiful…and broke the first time I left the
dock. Finally, I purchased a strut with a straight shank. I cut a hole
through the bottom of the boat and glassed it in at the proper angle. Worked
great.

Re: Stus-List V Berth Holding Tank

2016-10-12 Thread rick bushie via CnC-List
Collin,

Anchovy had a 2 gallon gas can for a holding tank when I got her. I
converted the forward potable water tank into a holding tank and installed
13 gallon bladders in the spaces you describe under the port and starboard
v-berth.

I cut out rather large openings on the two sides to facilitate installing
the bladders and converting the tank. Then I cut "Flanges" out of plywood
that are epoxied and screwed in place under the v-berth platform. These
flanges are very strong and allowed me to reinstall the cutouts after the
mods were done. The cutouts are screwed back in place but not epoxied so
that I can pull them again if needed.

I also removed the overboard through-hull and glassed it in.

I really like having a 30-35 gallon holding tank.

It's just under 65 miles from Chesapeake City to Cape May. Hitting the
current right is critical if I want to get there in under 12 hours. I've
found that a confluence of favorable wind and current is as common as
sightings of the Jersey Devil. If worse comes to worse, I can duck into
Cohansey Cove for a break. 12 - 14 hour trips are no problem as long as
I'm not crashing into 6 foot square chop not too uncommon on the DelBay
with opposing forces. But, you're absolutely right about the canal route
being the way to go.

The knot on the soft shackle is a fraction of the size of a bowline in a 3/8"

Like Joel, I made mine from directions on L-36.com. I use one on my jib sheets,
I use one on each toe rail for my preventer blocks, and I use one run through
half a tennis ball up forward when I rig my spin pole downhaul.

I musta made like twelve or fifteen of them on backshift at work one night.
Kept six for myself and gave the rest away to friends that summer.

After three years of continuous exposure they appear good as new. That being
said, caution dictates that I make a new batch this winter.

Re: Stus-List Replacing through hulls on a 30 MK1

2016-02-07 Thread Rick Bushie via CnC-List
Anchovy got all new through hull fittings and proper seacocks four years ago. I
bought everything, including flush fitting through hulls from Deep Blue Yacht
Supply. I used a small diamond cutting wheel on my Rotozip to cut out the old
fittings.

Re: Stus-List tightening the tiller

2016-01-21 Thread rick bushie via CnC-List
Ryan,

My hollow rudder stock was egg shaped from PO's tightening the tiller over
the years. Two years ago on the hard I propped the rudder from below and
removed the tiller. I used a BACC (big arse C clamp) and returned the
stock to roundish. When I reinstalled the tiller, I through bolted it
through some stainless 1/2" tubing on the inside to keep from compressing
the stock again. Been tight ever since.

BTW, while the tiller was off, I shimmed the rudder to eliminate the up and
down play using some delrin flat stock cut out like a really big fender
washer installed between the tiller and the cockpit deck.

Hope this helps

Re: Stus-List Stove

2015-03-06 Thread rick bushie via CnC-List
I replaced my pressurized alcohol stove with an Origo 6000. There is
absolutely no room (at least no room I'm willing to give up) on Anchovy for
a proper propane locker. I perk coffee and boil a teapot every morning
with no problem. My wife bakes every night. I have a griddle pan that sits
nicely across the two burners on top for breakfast goodies. What's not to
love! I highly recommend non press alcohol.

Re: Stus-List teak grab rail help 35 MK I

Joe, I know the 30-1 isn't the same boat but Anchovy's grab rails are wood
screwed from inside the cabin THROUGH the cabin grab rails.
