quick question. If I want to upgrade the kernel to 2.2.16, where do I go? In cooker there is the 2.2.17. In the update directories I see the 2.2.16-9, though I read in the list about the 2.2.16-10. The reason that I can't do a mkinitrd after I upgrade to 2.2.16 is that loop.o is not already in memory before the upgrade? If I insmod this and then do a "rpm -U" on the new kernel package, everything will be ok? Will loop.o still exist (and be usable) in my modules in the 2.2.16? Stratos

Mandrake's webpage has directions that need to be followed when performing the 2.2.16 kernel upgrade; however, before installing those rpms, load the loopback module ('insmod loop.o'). Else the file itself will be removed using the '-U' option or you will not be able to mkinitrd. -matthew

[Cooker] Mandrake Updates
Hi, I used Mandrake Update on two machines tonight since it offers several packages to update. The packages I chose to update were: kdesu, kernel, qt, reiserfs-utils and xlockmore. A very long error list of KDE apps appeared and complained of needing libqt.so.1. Also received the error "package reiserfs-utils-3.5.9-4mdk (which is newer than reiserfs-utils-2.2.16_3.5.9) is already installed. After Mandrake Update finished (error messages were the same on two machines), the one machine that got the kernel upgrade won't boot. I sort of expected this to happen, just wanted to see if it would work. Should it have worked? Thanks, -- Phil Lavigna [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/

Can someone tell me what file/package MandrakeUpdate points to? I installed with high security, so didn't get it. -- Carl A. Cook quantumATaugustmailDOTcom Sign the petition at http://www.libranet.com/petition.html Help bring us more Linux Drivers Need to close ports listening outside for X11, domain (named), and ssl. Found that for X11, I can add serverargs="-nolisten tcp" to startx, but now am booting directly to level5 and I can see X11's port 6000 again! Anyway, I would RATHER listen, but inside only. And beat my brains out where to close or redirect the DNS & ssl ports to the inside, & no luck. Also would like to have a 'big surprise' for anyone repeatedly trying an nfs port. [Cooker] Mandrake updates
Hello. Since some time ago I'm mirroring some Mandrake stuff with 'rsync' from 'sunsite.uio.no'. Last night all updated images for 7.0 sunsite.uio.no/pub/unix/linux/Mandrake/updates/7.0/images got deleted (yes, I do a "real" mirror). Well, today I was looking manually on sunsite via ftp and found a new directory structure an empty tree (except 'ls-LR')vvv sunsite.uio.no/pub/unix/linux/Mandrake/updates/7.0/RPMS/ SRPMS/ images/ ls-lR and an additional new tree sunsite.uio.no/pub/unix/linux/Mandrake/updates/7.00/RPMS/ SRPMS/ images/ ls-lR The latter contains the lost images. Is there something magic?
