[Cooker] rsync-plus now available

2003-09-07 Thread Ron Stodden
The troels team is very pleased indeed to announce the availability of
rsync-plus, a new fast Mandrake downloader (English only) - see the sig
below for the URL.

You may now:

Specify different exclude files for each download tree,

Specify additional options to rsync. --delete is suggested for all tree
downloads, and nothing for iso9660 CD image downloads.

Run a number of rsync-plus downloads concurrently providing the
destinations do not overlap (Caution: overlap not checked for, and the
consequences are catastrophic if --delete is used!). Running a number
of downloads concurrently makes sense when the source of network
constriction is distant from you, so that a number of independent
streams, possibly using different network paths, may be established.

Download of the 9.2 trees is provided for when they become available.

Fully supported by email to [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Questions and suggestions welcome.

Have fun!

[Cooker] Rsync Mirrors

2003-06-21 Thread Frank Griffin
Is there a list of rsync cooker mirrors along with the module names ?
I've tried several of the regular mirrors at random, but those that
respond to an rsync connect attempt seem to have inconsistent module
structures.

So far the ones I got to work are sunsite.uio.no and ftp.sunet.se, but
as I'm in the USA I'd rather use one closer to home

I use that because I don't have Perl installed on the machine, if you have

Due to the massive flood of downloaders, many mirrors are now offline, or have
reduced the number of simultaneous connections available. Clearly Mandrake is
now capable of generating the dreaded Redhat effect.

easy mkcd:

mkcd --catto [logfilename] -a [path to i586 dir of your cooker mirror] [stdout log]
2[stderr log]

most the errors will be in the [logfilename] but sometimes see them in the other logs.

Makes 650M CDs of everything in cooker + contrib (if you mirror contrib).
If you want larger CDs add a --discsize 700M in there (for 700M CDs - your size may
vary).

mkcd --discsize 700M --catto [logfilename] -a [path to i586 dir of your cooker mirror]
[stdout.log] 2[stderr.log]

Note that the mkcd in .../i586/misc is usually broke - use the rpm. (for example the
day 9.1 was frozen I used it and got CD1 as 850M - the mkcd from rpm made all less
than 650M)

If you want to tweak what gets in - see genhdlist.

*NOTE: this only applies to running under cooker. If you are using a release version
you may need to use MakeCD to get the right libs used during build (in which case
you're on your own - I haven't run a release version in so long I don't recall what it
was)*

Well here is the script I use to create my own .iso's (it runs mkcd)
You could use it as a starting point.

use like so.
genMandrakeISO --dvd --include-sources --include-max

options:
--9.0 generate a 9.0 iso set (defaults to cooker)
--cd generate 700MB images
--cd650 generate 650MB images
--dvd generate DVD-R sized images
--include-max include binaries, sources, contrib and PLF Texstar
 (PLF  Texstar goes in /extras)
--include-plf include PLF stuff (/extras)
--include-texstar include Texstar stuff (/extras)
--include-local include lcoally build rpms, and srpms
 (mostly used for NVIDIA drivers, bu will include anything in /usr/src/...)
--include-sources makes sources .iso as well
--burn burn created .iso's and remove them. (creates all .iso first)

You will almost certainly need to modify the following at the top of the
script; or set in the environment before running.

eg. MIRRORS_ROOT=/share/mirrors FTP=share/ftp genMandrakeISO .

ARCH=${ARCH:-i586}
FTP=${FTP:-/var/ftp/pub}
DEST=${DEST:-$FTP}
MIRRORS_ROOT=${MIRRORS_ROOT:-$FTP/mirrors}
WALLPAPERS=${WALLPAPERS:-~/Wallpapers}

NOTE: I don't include all PLF, and Texstar just rpms that aren't already
included in main/contrib.

Ever heard of an TODO list?

I'm the one that does the research, when this is done, someone has taken over,
or _has_ to take over and the matter is long gone and forgotten by me.

There's absolutely no way for me to be creative otherwise... Well..., yes...,
I _DO_ finalize some of the stuff sometimes like some of the apache2, the php
extensions and many many server applications, but it's hard because new and
different things allways keep coming at me, to me, and right into my face...

The creative mind is killed by nonchalance...

I'm not saying you or Mandrake are nonchalant (you're quite opposit), but
please value this as much as you can, whenever you can, as it's the most
precious thing you can have and strive for...

Peace and love to everyone.

2003-02-04 Thread David Walser
Ok, so ever since my friend told me my script wiped
out his whole Cooker mirror, I've just been browsing
the rsync shares wrong (forgetting the trailing slash)
thinking the rsync mirrors were messed up when they
might have been fine the whole time (and I was too
scared to run my script and confirm/deny).

Ok, so now I've added a DRYRUN option to my script:
http://luigiwalser.homeip.net:8080/~david/cooksync.pl
so you can see what the script would do, before
committing, and wiping our your whole mirror or
otherwise.

Yes during heavy update periods sometimes i change it to 100 but most of the

What seems strange to me is that I have been using the
Uninett mirror with great success. What path are you
using to sync from? I use this (reconstructed from
Ron Stodden's Troels perl script):

my $server_no = rsync://ftp.uninett.no:873;
my $store = /mnt;
sync_profile_rsync($server_no/Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586/, $store/cooker/i586/);
my $rsync_options = '--delete';
my $args = (rsync -av -H -P --progress --stats $options --exclude-from=$exclude_file
$remotemirror/ $localmirror/);

Yielding:

rsync -av -H -P --progress --stats --delete --exclude-from=$exclude_file
rsync://ftp.uninett.no:873/Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586/ /mnt/cooker/i586/
I use an empty exclude file right now, so for me, I have the equivalent of:
rsync -avHP --delete rsync://ftp.uninett.no:873/Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586/
/mnt/cooker/i586/

If you leave off all the fluffy options...

in which is:
lrwxrwxr-x   5 2002/06/08 07:00:28 cooker

client: nothing to do: perhaps you need to specify
some filenames or the --recursive option?
rsync error: partial transfer (code 23) at main.c(594)

And I (and other people) see the same thing on another

[Cooker] rsync switches

2002-07-05 Thread Tech At Mathco Dot Com

I got rsync working ok, trying to rsync the cooker
directory from sunet right now. But my problem is,
it keeps timing out on large files (i have dsl),
and when you cancel rsync it removes the file it
started downloading, so my question is, is there any
switch in rsync that lets you resume a allready started file?

Right now i have to ftp the large files, just imagine the
kdebase is over 60MB and then rsync the rest.

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

The rsync sample script located at:

It has a flag like so: --exclude '/.*'

I presume that is to avoid downloading the temporary files rsync makes

should be --exclude '.*'

[Cooker] rsync cooker mirror

I tried using the following script to mirror cooker daily

#! /bin/bash
rsync -av ftp.sunet.se::Mandrake-devel /home/ftp/Linux/

I use the mirror mostly for ftp installations and the above downloads much
more than I use.

Does this look reasonable?

[Cooker] Rsync script error

2002-03-02 Thread Ben Reser

The rsync sample script located at:
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/rsync.txt
has an error in it.

It has a flag like so: --exclude '/.*'

I presume that is to avoid downloading the temporary files rsync makes
while syncing.

However this flag doesn't work with the way that script is setup. It
should be --exclude '.*'

I made a directory named test and touched x and .x note the files
transfered and how the flag is set:

[Cooker] Rsync command useage for messed up mirrors

2002-02-24 Thread Robert Fox

Many are complaining about the frequent changes for sunsite.uio.no and
ftp.sunet.se - especially when there is a minor timestamp or file size
shift which requires a large download of the whole RPMS directory.

So who's the Rsync expert here - I've tried various switches with no
effect --size-only or -t or -I

My normal download line is:

rsync -auvP --delete sunsite.uio.no::Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586/ .

Even fmirror can't catch this problem and requires the full download of
the RPMs directory.

Any clues or tips would be more than appreciated.

Cheers,
R.Fox

I have a redundant script for do that (ie if not responding, go to next

beacause I use mirror who have x86 mandrake and ppc:

ftp.uninett.no::Mandrake/ All mandrake, lot of giga
(Europe)

ftp.wtfo.com::Mandrake
ftp.wtfo.com::Mandrake-iso
ftp.wtfo.com::Mandrake-devel
(USA)

and
carroll.cac.psu.edu::mandrake
carroll.cac.psu.edu::mandrake-iso
carroll.cac.psu.edu::mandrake-devel
(USA)

There also distro.ibiblio.org but I had many problem, perhaps a bad rsync
version.

Good test.

Ok, there is definitely a problem at ftp.sunet.se then. I tried
downloading their network.img again and it did the same thing (it even
said Mandrake 8.0beta on the installer!).

So instead I downloaded network.img from ftp.proxad.net and it worked

Can someone let sunet.se know their mirror is fubared?

[Cooker] Can't install Cooker (rsync from today)

2002-02-04 Thread Steve Fox

I'm trying to install Cooker on my PC and I have rsync'ed the entire
cooker archive (except RPMS2) to my laptop. I made the boot disk from
network.img in the /images directory (looks to be last updated on Feb
1).

When I boot the floppy, first problem is that my M$ Optical USB mouse
doesn't work. Sucks, but life goes on as I have a tab key!

It detects my NIC, I set up IP, DNS, blah blah, but after that I get

An error occured:
Can't access kernel modules corresponding to your kernel (file
/lib/modules.cz-2.4.2-BOOT3 is missing).

Which is odd because I selected an install (not an upgrade) and my
current version is 2.4.8 anyways.

Any ideas where this error is coming from?

[Cooker] Rsync problem

2002-01-26 Thread Meles MELES

Hi,
I'd lie to rsync locally cooker with only the locale files I need
(french to be précise and english).
But I don't really understand how it works, how to set exclude rules
and so on.
Can I rsync any ftp server?

Could someone give me an little explanation in order to set up my rsync.
Sample files would be appreciated :-)

Thx a lot in advance.

Best regards
Blaise

What is your solution for correctly rsyncing Mandrake/RPMS2? I had to
delete the broken softlink in Mandrake/RPMS2, create a directory called
Mandrake/RPMS2, and then rsync Contrib and send that to Mandrake/RPMS2.
Anyone else have a better solutiong then this?

With my mirror partition called, of all things, cooker, and mounted in 8.1, the
directory structure looks like:

/cooker/cooker/cooker/
\
 /contrib/i586

  ls -l /cooker/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS2
lrwxrwxrwx1 1137 1100   22 Jan  6 16:14
/cooker/cooker/cooker/Mandrake/RPMS2 - ../../../contrib/i586/

RPMS2 is a link to i586 in the contrib branch, so you have to make these
directories for it to work, along with the -L switch:

  rsync -avL --delete ftp.sunet.se::Mandrake-devel/cooker/cooker/
/cooker/cooker/cooker

Depends on whether you get the contribs and/or the SRC files - with
contribs and SRC it'll be about 2.5 Gig and without roughly 1.7 Gig.

[Cooker] Rsync cooker

2002-01-22 Thread tech at mathco dot com

I have tried to rsync cooker from the sunet archive,
it took a whole night but thats ok hehe.

But rsync doesn't remove the old file,
only adding the new filename. Is there any way to
get around this without having to manually go and remove
the old files?

RE: [Cooker] Rsync cooker

so my commandline would be
rsync -av --delete ftp.sunet.se::Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586 /home/cooker

for example?

Yes, by adding --delete to your rsync command. It will remove the older
files
and make sure that your directory matches exactly with the remote server's
directory. Use with care, because if the Mandrake team decides to change the
dir structure it could wipe out your entire directory.

following the advice of using delete option with care, use the -n flag
first: rsync -avn --delete ftp.sunet.se::Mandrake-devel/cooker/i586
just to see if the mirror is ok or else be sure to back up your
directory first (that's my choice because I have room).
