for the moment, i altered list_modules.pm to list btaudio in other and
not anymore in multimedia/sound.

another solution would be to ensure that btaudio get never in
snd-sound-slot0, detect btaudio special case somewhere and add an
"pre-install btaudio modprobe snd-sound-slot0"
but that would interfere with sound and alsa services

Re: [Cooker] Latest Cooker install issues - PROBLEM FOUND

2002-08-21 Thread Robert Fox

Found the problem. After a fresh install with latest Cooker, it seems to recognize
the TV Tuner audio cipset (which it never did before!)

The btaudio module was taking precedence over the standard sound device (/dev/dsp)

This should actually come AFTER the standard sound device (ES1371)
I found my system works just fine without the btaudio!

Here's the modules.conf and the commented out line:

probeall scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx
probeall usb-interface usb-uhci
#alias sound-slot-1 btaudio <--- Had to comment this out
alias eth0 3c59x
alias sound-slot-0 es1371
alias usb-interface0 usb-uhci

Strange. As I made a test install (that was with Cooker from last
Sunday), I've used a single xfs partition. It resulted in "noatime"
and "notail" in fstab. The partition was previously formatted with
reiserfs, but I doubt that this plays a role.

Cheers,
Andreas

?? is there a special thing to do to get this problem?

i've made an install:

/dev/hdc1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
/dev/hdc7 /boot xfs defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc5 /usr jfs defaults 1 2
/dev/hdc6 /var reiserfs notail 1 2
/dev/hdc8 swap swap defaults 0 0

aka nothing wrong!

i don't understand. why would there be "notail" for anything else than
reiserfs?

An other issue is the missing auto raid detectiton (for
software raid) in the installation kernel.

That's right. Playing with the installer I created a XFS root fs.
Booting with that failed, because the notail option was in /etc/fstab.
XFS does not understand this, too.

Workaround:

CTRL_ALT-F1

(X will still be running, if you want to kill X, although it's not
necessary for this application, log in as root and do 'init 3'. 'init 5'
to restart x).

ALT-F7 to get back to X (if you didn't init)

CTRL-ALT-F(1-6) provide you with 6 virtual terminals under normal operation.

I tried an install from the latest cooker on one of my test

1. Could not create a reiserfs volume.
Tried changing an ext3 partition to a
reiserfs partiton. The installer said it could
 not format the partition.

2. Tried just reformatting partition to ext3. That
went fine, but upon reboot the filesystem could not
 be remounted read-write.

3. ext2 is ok.

4. If it matters and I had the security setting
 set to high.

5. There is already a bootable linux running on the
disk that is a reiserfs file system. The journal
file systems were being installed to /dev/hda3.

the pb is ntfs being badly handled by the kernel. This is removed now :-/

this is quite strange. Could you give your partition table and the beginning

It's not limited to only Win partitions. I have a Type 12 partition that the
installer wouldn't let me put as a lilo boot option. It might have if I hadn't
also wanted the Win partition. Is this installer limit on foreign partition
types as a whole?

1. Nice overall improvement on the installer!

2. But...

One thing that seems to halt the installation dead in it's track is
theinclusion of more than one Windows ( FAT or NTFS ) file
system. My system has 3 Windows file systems ( NTFS, FAT, NTFS for
VMWare ) and I could not finish the install until I prevented two
of the file systems from beingmounted.

3. I have G400 and I also have the invisible pointer problem. I'd
really
like to know how to fix that... XFree86 V4 seems to be much faster
( or
at least from kdm paints its screen...)

4. When you tell fontdrake to look for look for your windows fonts it
want's to know where C:\Windows is at. Perhaps a better question
to
have it ask is where the Windows file system is mounted...

5. Not a bug but a request. It would be nice when you are in

using the hd.img but it crashes with some termination error 11 thing at the select
partion and path screen no matter what I type.
I'll burn it to a cd, but it's 773 MB and I was wondering what is safe to cut out so it
will fit. I know people have asked this question before but I don't remember.

Thanks for the help!
