Alternatively, I could see it being in the boot section, since you are
selecting the login screen you see after a boot (if you use a graphical login).

In order to add a urpmi repository, it must provide a hdlist.

That is done with tools related to genhdlist. The process is not well
documented as far as I know. I cd to the directory containing the files and

# genhdlist `pwd`

And then add it to the media list.

You _should_ be able to do it with urpmi.addmedia using the -f option, like:

# urpmi.addmedia -f file://

but I always get an error like: Can't use string ("MyRPM") as a HASH ref while
"strict refs" in use at /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.0/urpm.pm line 914.

I have no idea what to do about that and I'm probably doing this all woring as
well.

The following links might help us if they were in English:

we're reworked the mcc gui.
we now use 2 columns of icons + description.
there must have been a beginning so come the "dummy description".
in cvs, half entries have description.
i'll upload a new mcc and people'll be able to provide description if
they want.

imho anyway, this has nothing to do with code quality or alpha/beta.

On this I think everyone on this list agree ...

And considering the "worst case scenario" given

Lets make sure the 9.1 release is " a full 10 " ;-)

that would IMHO be a great loss to the world...

Well, IMHO they needed to release the beta1 to get a "basesystem"
to start the package voting from...

And I dont care if the name used is "beta" instead of "alpha", since
it's just that, a name... I mean what's the difference in for examle:
1 x alpha + 4 x beta, or 5 x beta...

It's when the switch goes from 'beta' to 'RC' when things like
this shouldn't appear anymore...

IMHO 'beta' simply stands for work in progress, so in
the beginning of the process 'bugs' like this will appear...

and 'RC' stands for "giving it the final touch" / fixing
the last bugs...

i know, i know but i'm currently busy in porting our tools to gtk+-2
since gc has nearly done most widget support in perl-Gtk2.
once that done, i'll look at it.
it should work smoothly with :

   LC_ALL=C LC_MESSAGES=C LANG=C LANGUAGE=C mcc

it is known to work smoothly too with french locales :-)

There was no mention of the authors in the summarry.
But, if you click on get new themes, you have the website.
Sorry, I should have look earlier.

I think that is is important to have theme for mcc, since people would not
have to "learn" 2 types of icons.
Of course, I may confuse them, if the same configuration icons is at 2 place.
But, far less than having two icon foir the same concept.

I had the same problems some weeks ago; I discovered that the new default
theme has several icons more thant the olds ones; just copy the additional
icons to every theme and it works but the icons are so big, so the result
is not absolutely good.

Works fine here...
I can list the flash card /dev/sda1 mounted with supermount,
fs=auto in the USB imagemate. The card has a FAT16 file system
and I am using kernel-2.4.19.12mdk.
-11mdk had some problems, could it be the reason?

there are also no "/dev/sd*" files. I am unable to mount my memory flash (but
I could with the 9.0 rc1)

do you have a cdwriter?

if you do, then rename:
/usr/share/mcc/themes/default/diskdrake-cdwriter.png
to
/usr/share/mcc/themes/default/diskdrake_cdwriter.png

At least, that's what you get when you launch the script (drakconf) from a
terminal.

Hmm really strange things going on in 4mdk ;)

Update first install the new package and then removes the old one.
You can use the --noscripts options to get rid of it, to be sure
what the script does check the package with --scripts.

Recompile userhelper with -O1 instead of -O2 and see if it makes a

yes that because in 8.0 MandrakeControlCenter was called DrakConf and in 8.1
we decided to homogenize all the name of our tools (without upper case
letters) thus DrakCOnf was kept for compatibility reasons..

Well I did installed etherape new version and guess what,
now it doesn't work, it makes a symlink to consolehelper...

wherever that is: DrakConf->../../../usr/bin/consolehelper (Unknown Link)
But.. if you call the application directly 'perl drakconf.real it works ;-)
well it starts..

Then you didn't expect me. ;-) In GUI tools, I find it easiest to just
click around a few things and see what's there to figure out how it works.
You're telling me the first thing you do when you try a new program is read
the manual? HA! I don't believe you.

And incidentally, depite the "beauty" of the autoinstall thing, after it was
done autoinstalling itself, it doesn't work anyway. Now I click printing

Re: [Cooker] DrakConf cups autoinstall "feature"

2001-04-24 Thread Eaon

Well then I clearly disagree. I just happened to be clicking around.
There is no printer attached to this machine and I don't feel the need
for it to print. I was just investigating the tool. If I can't
investigate it because part of the tool is not installed, I'd rather be
told that than have it just presume that it knows what's best for me.
Tres Microsoft, I say.

What if I was just bad with the mouse and meant to hit the item above or
below printing and just lucked out and accidentally clicked it instead?
Shouldn't I at least get a dialog asking me if I really want something
new installed on my machine? I mean, if the answer is indeed yes, I
will only ever be asked the question once, so it's not like it's a
really big inconvenience to confirm that choice. And what if I'm on a
dialup connection. The cups drivers are several megabytes in size. Is
it right for it to just take off and start downloading files without a
hello and how are you? I'd rather it ask me and make sure I'm ready to
do that before it goes tying up my phone line for several hours.

No, I stand by my statement. Software should never be installed without
first some confirmation from the user.

Re: [Cooker] DrakConf cups autoinstall "feature"

2001-04-23 Thread Kyle Jacobs

I can't say it's presumptuous; the user is clearly attempting
to configure the Linux print system. If CUPS is not available,
it is clearly not installed, and the feature is useless.

Rather than just "not working", or giving a cryptic error
message, the program intelligently requests the install sources
so that the feature in question CAN be installed.

I for one, think its time for MORE presumptuous action on the
behalf of the operating system.

I could write a whole essay about weird XFdrake moments. I don't know where to
start. The one about clicking cancel to be able to choose monitor, or the one
where selecting video card cancels your previous monitor selection, or when
you're done doing an expert configuration and accidently click OK after
returning to the main screen makes the configuration start all over, or the
black testing screen. I could go on.

Is Mandrake aware of the oddities in XFdrake? Is a major overhaul planned? It's
a crucial application to make Linux-Mandrake user friendly, but in its current
state it doesn't add to the friendlyness, unfortunately.

I know little about how XFdrake looks under the hood, but perhaps a complete
rewrite is the solution? Maybe even as module compatible with KDE's Control
Center. *wishing* :)

What I usually do when setting up X (in the installation process) is to
test the configuration (install warns that it could freeze the system or
something like that); X starts, with a confirmation message: Is this
setting correct? I answer no to that one, and I get back to a dialog where
I can set my monitor and video card; when I do that, the resolution shows
all of the settings.

DrakConf, however, shows me the default values instead of the ones I'm
currently using, so I'd rather do that on install.

Nearly right. Actually perl-base was 5.700-1mdk, while perl was 5.600-20mdk.
5.700-1mdk is only in contrib - I don't remember installing it but I suppose
I must have - prior to upgrading cooker - perhaps I installed something from
contrib that depended upon it?? So I removed 5.700-1mdk and installed
5.600-20mdk.

Thanks anyway, DrakConf works again.

[root@leia pixel]# rpm -qf /usr/lib/perl5/5.6.0/vars.pm
perl-base-5.600-20mdk

perl-base isn't installed?

Hi!

It was not possible for me to use DrakConf even directly...Only solution
was to delete those two files .rc files!
