(IMHO) we're reworked the mcc gui. we now use 2 columns of icons + description. there must have been a beginning so come the "dummy description". in cvs, half entries have description. i'll upload a new mcc and people'll be able to provide description if they want. imho anyway, this has nothing to do with code quality or alpha/beta.

Re: [Cooker] DrakConf cups autoinstall "feature"
Well then I clearly disagree. I just happened to be clicking around. There is no printer attached to this machine and I don't feel the need for it to print. I was just investigating the tool. If I can't investigate it because part of the tool is not installed, I'd rather be told that than have it just presume that it knows what's best for me. Tres Microsoft, I say. What if I was just bad with the mouse and meant to hit the item above or below printing and just lucked out and accidentally clicked it instead? Shouldn't I at least get a dialog asking me if I really want something new installed on my machine? I mean, if the answer is indeed yes, I will only ever be asked the question once, so it's not like it's a really big inconvenience to confirm that choice. And what if I'm on a dialup connection. The cups drivers are several megabytes in size. Is it right for it to just take off and start downloading files without a hello and how are you? I'd rather it ask me and make sure I'm ready to do that before it goes tying up my phone line for several hours. No, I stand by my statement. Software should never be installed without first some confirmation from the user. Re: [Cooker] DrakConf cups autoinstall "feature"
I can't say it's presumptuous; the user is clearly attempting to configure the Linux print system. If CUPS is not available, it is clearly not installed, and the feature is useless. Rather than just "not working", or giving a cryptic error message, the program intelligently requests the install sources so that the feature in question CAN be installed. I for one, think its time for MORE presumptuous action on the behalf of the operating system. From there I got a > blank screen and could not do anything. Not switch to a console > window. I could write a whole essay about weird XFdrake moments. I don't know where to start. The one about clicking cancel to be able to choose monitor, or the one where selecting video card cancels your previous monitor selection, or when you're done doing an expert configuration and accidently click OK after returning to the main screen makes the configuration start all over, or the black testing screen. I could go on. Is Mandrake aware of the oddities in XFdrake? Is a major overhaul planned? It's a crucial application to make Linux-Mandrake user friendly, but in its current state it doesn't add to the friendlyness, unfortunately. I know little about how XFdrake looks under the hood, but perhaps a complete rewrite is the solution? Maybe even as module compatible with KDE's Control Center. *wishing* :) Matt

Why wouldn't this be correct? Video card type is a GeForce2 > MX. What I usually do when setting up X (in the installation process) is to test the configuration (install warns that it could freeze the system or something like that); X starts, with a confirmation message: Is this setting correct? I answer no to that one, and I get back to a dialog where I can set my monitor and video card; when I do that, the resolution shows all of the settings. DrakConf, however, shows me the default values instead of the ones I'm currently using, so I'd rather do that on install. -- Jorge

Nearly right. Actually perl-base was 5.700-1mdk, while perl was 5.600-20mdk. 5.700-1mdk is only in contrib - I don't remember installing it but I suppose I must have - prior to upgrading cooker - perhaps I installed something from contrib that depended upon it?? So I removed 5.700-1mdk and installed 5.600-20mdk.
