RE: Re: PM 4400
Why would I direct it there? I'm using Mandrake 8 PPC, Not LinuxPPC. Maybe I should clarify. Where on Mandrake's conglomerate of websites and email list would I possibly get an answer to the question: "How do I use XFree86 on a Power Mac 4400?" xpmac is slow, unstable, and makes a bunch of garbage show on my screen. RE: iMac DV XF86config?
>Perhaps we should set up a repository for these; I think this is a great idea! I realize, with Wintel architecture, video settings and possiblities can be endless. But, as you said, with Mac Hardware, the video settings and possiblities are fairly low in number, and would only require a few different config files to be swapped around. Hopefully many people will be willing to share! I personally have yet to get xfree86 working on my PowerMac 4400 series machine. I'm using xpmac, and I'm passing kernel arguments with bootx to get it to change bit depth and resolutions, as necessary. -Zack "Ryan C. RE: ram question
To my knowledge, only 133 mobo's can utilize 133 and 100 RAM. 100 mobos cannot utilize 133 RAM. Check www.ramseeker.com for the cheapest RAM prices, as well as upgrade guides. Everymac.com is also a good resource for this - lookup your G3, and he'll tell you what RAM you can/cannot use. -Zack Vincent Danen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >Quick question... Yeah, Toast didn't burn the ISOs for me properly on my Mac, so I ended up burning the ISO's under Winderz with EZ CD Creator 4. xpmac
Ok, my Mac evidently can't use XFree86, at least the version that comes with 8.0 Final, so it defaults to the xpmac server. What config file does xpmac use? I've edited all the config files for xfree86 with no success... anyone else have a clue? Also, where can I get the *latest* version of xpmac? Seems that the links that I've found jump around - many of them no longer working. Is there an xpmac home page? The version I have leaves a trail on the screen following my mouse, and constantly "jumps" and leaves garbage and artifacts all over the place when I type and move windows around. Do later versions of xfree86 work better on macs? Thank You, -Zack -- _ I feel more like I do right now than I did a while ago. __ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. RE: Re: Internet Sharing
Sorry I didn't clarify raker.. My cable modem plugs into a hub, where 4 other various computers are connected too. I'm currently utilizing IPNetRouter on this Macintosh with one ethernet card to share internet with the three other computers. The Mac with IPNetRouter (and now Mandrake PPC RC1) grabs an IP from the cable modem via DHCP. I was under the impression I could do this under Linux... ? With Mandrake hopefully. Internet Sharing
The internet sharing utility within the mandrake control center isn't working for me too well, and I'm guessing it is because I only have one ethernet card. Does it only setup two ethernet cards? Or can it be modified to setup one card? What files do I edit/create in order to share my internet with this one ethernet card with mandrake ppc? I'm am on an ATT cable modem. I realize this may be out of the scope of this list, so if someone could just point me in the right direction, I'd be helpful. And by the way, I've looked at the RedHat and other Mini-HowTo forums - I can only find instructions for two-card setups. I've successfully shared access with this computer utilizing IPNetRouter under MacOS9. PM 4400 Series SCSI module
Hi, I'm trying to install Linux Mandrake RC1 for PPC on my Power Mac 4400 series computer. It's actually a Powertools Infinity 4200 machine, but the motherboard is an Apple PowerMac 4400 series, used in multiple Motorola and MacTell configurations. 200Mhz 604e. Anyhoo... I can't get it to recognize SCSI. I've tried both the MESH and a couple other SCSI modules, but none work. The MESH module actually worked once, but then crapped out (it got to "Second Install Stage" or something, and then screen went blank and rebooted.) MESH now just causes a Kernel Panic and then just reboots after 180 seconds. Any help? I've scanned the articles here, saw that someone else was having a similar issue. Has this been fixed, or is there a workaround? Maybe a different module or kernel? If it helps, I have gotten LinuxPPC 2000 Q4 working on it before. I also have Linux Mandrake 8.0 x86 on my AMD Athlon 800Mhz machine, and I love it. Soon as I found out a version of Mandrake for PPC was out, I had to try it :) Thanks, -Z
