I couldn't get the xmms stuff to work. I will give it a whirl.
Re: Sound Issues
Hi Dippy, I also have an iMac DV and I've gotten sound to work fine. I'll write more in a bit (I'm on my way out to dinner) - but basically, I'm using the aRts and alsa systems. I have the following lines in my /etc/modules.conf: # ALSA portion alias char-major-116 snd # OSS/Free portion alias char-major-14 soundcore # ALSA portion alias snd-card-0 snd-card-awacs # OSS/Free portion alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 # OSS/Free portion - card #1 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss Get that in there and see if that gets you going. If not - wait for my next installment ;) -Brice Dippy Black wrote: >I thought since it had been awhile since it was first brought up, I would >bring it up again. I have no sound at all on my Imac DV. Re: Sound Issues
Dippy, Have you tried experimenting with the alsa sound drivers that are on my web page? I can't build those into the distro due to conflicts with the other architectures, but I'm going to try maintaining them personally, as the kernels progress. Some of the newer machines have sound hardware that is not compatible with dmasound or dmasound_awacs, so the alsa drivers are an alternative. I know some other PPC distro's are now using dmasound_pmac, but I haven't had an opportunity to look at how I might patch this into the Mandrake kernel. Sound Issues
I thought since it had been awhile since it was first brought up, I would bring it up again. I have no sound at all on my Imac DV. If starting up with the KDE desktop I get a really annoying blast of static. If I use gnome there is nothing. I get no system sounds at all.
