O.k., I admit, it was a little tricky to install it, but it runs ! How did I do ? Well, I downloaded the debs manually, then installed them with the --force-overwite option. I first installed the openoffice-ia32-libs, then the opneoffice.org-debian-files (as I remember, there was a site, which described that more specific). Look at my name in the mailing lists, somwhere I described, how I did. Openoffice is working now, but I cannot upgrade due to the missing ia32-libs (see above) I think, they must exist somewhere, due they are mentioned in the dependencies. If someone is interested, how I managed to get openoffice run on this machine, I will like to describe it again ! :))) Best regards Hans -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". They are not in Debian-AMD64. There are no official OpenOffice packages in the AMD64 distribution, as far as i am aware. There exists a package though, that will provide all necessary 32bit libraries + OpenOffice, so you can run it as a 32bit application (no chroot needed). This package is called something like "amd64-archive" and was provided on this list by Goswin von Brederlow. Try to search for the thread ... I am running OpenOffice 32bit with the help of this package.

Re: Evolution doesn't start anymore because of a dbus problem
Are you sure this is related to amd64 ? or even Debian ? Maybe you would get a beter answer if you would search on the Evolution site. Anyway, after a quick reading through your mail I would try : - Remove package evolution-plugins; - Start evolution; - Search for and un-check evil option about sending a message to dbus; - Re-install package evolution-plugins. And don't you _ever_ touch that check box again ;o) Alternatively figure out which of the many plugins is attempting the evil deed, and ... shoot it ('rm' will work too). If it doesn't help, sorry. Evolution doesn't start anymore because of a dbus problem
Hello, I have had the really bad idea to check the option "send a d-bus message" (or something similar) in the Evolution preferences and now it crashes immediately at every startup giving me this message: Failed to connect to the D-BUS daemon: Unable to determine the address of the message bus 4949: arguments to dbus_connection_get_data() were incorrect, assertion "connection != NULL" failed in file dbus-connection.c line 4029. Xen on amd64
I noticed there's an unstable release of Xen on xensource.org for amd64. Has anyone tried this? I have an amd64 box I want to use as a dev system, running 64-bit Debian, but I need to develop a small custom distro for a thin client system. I thought maybe I could install Xen and then put AMD64 Debian and a 32-bit-something-else on it. Simon

Re: dpkg-architecture issues/vmware
I did have 1.10.28 from sarge, but I upgraded gcc to build a package earlier. I will change the link to point to the right one. I got dpkg from amd64.debian.net unstable, I think. But I may be wrong. Thanks for your help. Also - forgive the newbie question - but can someone tell me how to 'downgrade' a package? Is it a matter of removing it completely then picking the right apt source to install from?
