Bug#436226: save-message should update headern cache for target folder
Package: mutt Version: 1.5.16-2 Severity: wishlist When I save-message a message to another folder, mutt does not update the header cache of the destination folder. This means that when I open the destination folder, mutt notices a change and has to reindex the Maildir. At the time of save-message, mutt knows exactly what change is being made and could update the destination's header cache with much less effort than when opening the mailbox and having to figure out what needs updating. It would thus be nice if mutt updated the destination's header_cache after successfully saving a message to another folder. Bug#436230: libhypre-dev: modified superlu headers get installed under /usr/include
Package: libhypre-dev Version: 1.6.0-4 Severity: important Hi, the package includes modified superlu headers, e.g SLU_NC is renamed to NC in supermatrix.h, which get installed under /usr/include. Therefore the suplerlu headers under /usr/include are different from the original superlu headers in /usr/include/superlu/supermatrix from package libsuperlu3-dev. Any dumb user (like me) would assume the headers under /usr/include to be the original ones, which is not the case here. As a remedy I would suggest installing all hypre headers under /usr/include/hypre instead. Bug#436164: Will be fixed in KDE4
The xpdf in kpdf right now is 3.02, incompatible with 3.01, which is the base of poppler up to 0.5 and thus can't be easily changed. When poppler 0.6 comes out it should be easy to patch kpdf to work against that. Lenny will surely ship with KDE4, which includes a new document viewer which replaces kpdf and which uses poppler instead of shipping an internal xpdf copy. -- Warp Networks | [EMAIL PROTECTED]| http://warp.es Debian| [EMAIL PROTECTED] | http://www.debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#198803:
Version: 1.2.2-1 Hi! This was fixed a while ago. cupsys changing SSL certificates seemed unacceptable to me, too. cupsys (1.2.2-1) unstable; urgency=medium * New upstream release [ Martin Pitt ] * Adapt patches to new upstream version. * debian/cupsys.init.d: If lp module loading is requested, also load the 'ppdev' module to fix the name and model detection of parallel printers on newer kernels. * Revive debian/patches/56_dirsvc.dpatch; it's still not fixed upstream. * debian/patches/09_runasuser.dpatch: Do not drop additional group privileges in scheduler/process.c. This should fix a range of bugs concerning detection of parallel port printers and other 'permission denied' bugs if privilege dropping is enabled (it is disabled by default in Debian). * debian/patches/44_fixconfdirperms.dpatch: Do not change owner and mode of SSL certificate, in order to not break permissions of customized global ones (like the one from the ssl-cert package). Grrr, cups, no, you cannot own the world! * debian/patches/54_cups-config_modeldir.dpatch: Add --modeldir to cups-config so that other packages can use it to figure out the correct PPD base path. * debian/cupsys.examples: Do not ship .svn files (upstream Makefiles install them). * debian/local/{enable_browsing,browsing_status}: Adapt to single-file configuration file style. * Add debian/local/{enable_sharing,sharing_status}: Similar to enable_browsing and browsing_status, this switches between Listen localhost:631 and Port 631 (just as the web interface does). Install files in debian/rules. -- Kenshi Muto [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon, 24 Jul 2006 10:59:27 +0200 -- Martin Pitthttp://www.piware.de Ubuntu Developer http://www.ubuntu.com Debian Developer http://www.debian.org signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Note: some additional fix to be done is that libvolume-id-dev is not available on kfreebsd* (since that comes from udev). kfreebsd doesn't need it anyway (since if I understand correctly this is only used for mount). BTW, hurd-i386 has the same issues, so Build-Depends should probably look like: Build-Depends: libncurses5-dev, libslang2-dev (=2.0.4-1), gettext, zlib1g-dev, libvolume-id-dev (=0.113-2) [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386], uuid-dev, dpkg-dev (=1.13.12), libselinux1-dev [!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386] Samuel -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#436240: debhelper: exclude file for dh_install --list-missing
Package: debhelper Version: 5.0.53 Severity: wishlist Some packages install boatloads of files and exclude boatloads of files. In order to keep track of that, dh_install --list-missing or --fail-missing is useful, but adding dozens or hundreds of exceptions on the command line is awkard. It would be useful to have a file, say, debian/not-installed that lists the files to exclude from the missing checks. Alternatively, an option such as --exclude-from to name the exception file would work. The idea is that the concatenation of *.install and not-installed would come out to be the complete file list that the upstream source installs. I'm not exactly sure on the best interface for this. It might make sense to have a package-specific *.not-installed as well. The other question is whether this file should be an exact equivalent to specifying -X on the command line or whether it should apply only to the missing check. The former would probably make more sense. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#422660: a review is needed for moap
Hi, On Sat, Aug 04, 2007, Marc-André Lureau wrote: If you have time, can you review this package as well? I could maintain it also. Sure; will you import it in collab-maint? Did you send it upstream? 10) You might want to run the testsuite on build. 11) You might want to patch Ubuntu specific strings to add a Debian flavor. !12) You miss dependencies on python-librdf, python-cheetah, python-genshi, exuberant-ctags etc. Please don't list all of these as Depends but use Depends/Recommends/Suggests as best fits. Bug#361304: Debian bug follow up (Re: bug 361304)
Now that 2.18 is available in testing, can you try again and see if there's any improvement? I'm sorry to say that there isn't ... CPU usage is ok as long as I'm not actually doing anything with the connection. Just trying to move a window or opening a menu will spike it immediately. The performance is worse than it ever was, dragging a window drags the window manager's title bar first, then the rest of the window hobbles / smears after it in layers - you can watch the UI draw leisurely. Scrolling is completely impossible as the scrolled info sort of topples over itself. What am I doing wrong - it can't be that unusable for other people? Reminds me of the one time I had to use VNC over a 56k modem ... brr. Using dedicvated VNC screens I sometimes forget that I'm not working locally. Even videos can be previewed, if only at a few fps. Dear Bartosz, I have a new release (version 0.42) ready, which fixes the other known bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=332468 Are you also interested in fixing this new issue in the debian package? Bug#354255: procps: top exits with non zero exit code in normal cases
Hi, I'm not sure I can follow you here: Alternatively, you can call bye_bye() with the dont_care_sig parameter, but be aware that there are a few functions that take the dont_care_sig parameter, but throw that value away. The other installed signal-handlers suspend() and wins_resize_sighandler() are throwing it away because their action doesn't depend on the exact signal delivered - but end_pgm() should certainly base the exit code that it's going to pass on to bye_bye() on the incoming parameter. I forwarded your bug upstream at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11845 and the developer wants to know whether you were using the same driver when you said xserver-xorg-core 1.1 worked while 1.3 gave a black screen. I guess you initially had xserver-xorg-core 1.1 with siliconmotion 1.4.1 (all from etch). Then you upgraded to 1.3 + 1.5.1 (current testing) from what I see at the end of your first report. Then you probably downgraded back to 1.3 + 1.4.1 to get something working again. IIRC xserver-xorg-core 1.3 (testing/unstable) should work with siliconmotion 1.4.1 (etch/stable). Did/could you check this combination? It would help us be sure whether the problem is in the server or the driver. If the BLKRRPART ioctl is issued, the partition table is re-read correctly, /dev/sdx1 appears, HAL activates and the stick is auto-mounted correctly. Repartitioning the stick appears to work, but only because fdisk issues the ioctl to re-read the partition table after it's been modified - when the stick is removed and re-plugged, the same issue occurs. Issuing the ioctl without actually changing anything (sfdisk -R) is sufficient to fix it. could you test against newer kernel from unstable 2.6.22. it installs just fine and if still reproducible trunk see apt lines - http://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernel thanks -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#413383: procps - pgrep with bad arguments always returns exit code 0
Hi, However, pgrep/pkill does not take a parameter to list how to use the command, so usage() should always exit with EXIT_USAGE. in fact, there *is* such a command line parameter: pgrep -?. The problem here is that the arbitrarily chosen -? and the behaviour of getopt(3) upon encountering unknown commandline parameters overlap. The case '?' is reached in both cases - having explicitly specified -? or some other invalid character. However, getopt(3) sets optopt to the character that it actually found in the input in case of an error, so that's how we can make a decision. The exit(2) call in usage() never needed a change. New patch attached. Bug#436244: snort: FTBFS on Ubuntu gutsy
retitle 436244 snort: FTBFS on sid: missing html.sty thanks Michael Bienia [EMAIL PROTECTED] (06/08/2007): snort 2.7.0-2 from experimental got synced to Ubuntu gutsy and FTBFS on i386 which also builds the arch all packages. I guess you want to report that on Ubuntu's launchpad/BTS. I confirm that the package FTBFS on sid too, though; retitling accordingly. Searching with packages.debian.org for html.sty in unstable reveals that it's in latex2html which is in non-free. So it can't be used as a build-dependency for snort. It is still depending on tetex, not on texlive, anyway. The maintainers are aware of html.sty-related problems, given the changelog (see jfs for 2.3.3-6). Bug#435040: xserver-xorg-video-ati: switching VT from console to X freezes computer with X22 (Radeon Mobility M6 LY)
On Mon, Aug 06, 2007 at 11:48:14AM +0200, Michel Dänzer wrote: On Mon, 2007-08-06 at 11:43 +0300, Kari Pahula wrote: There's a delay of more than 15 seconds (mostly calling FBIOPUTCMAP ioctl and gettimeofday, apparently) after the V_BIOS entry and before X is usable, but at least the VT switches without any screen freezes with int10. But those delays are a separate issue altogether. Does not using Option UseFBDev make any difference for this? Commenting out the UseFBDev option made a difference, in that it made starting X faster. But it also brought the VT switching freeze back, and this time it would lock down the kernel and not just the screen. Doesn't respond to pings or anything. I still had the int10 module loaded. I did some debugging and noticed that running X with nice -n -10 strace X 2stracedump made the freezes go away... If I took away the nice command with the negative priority, the system would freeze. Looks like X really likes to have a bit longer delay at some point. I suppose the delay(s) caused by FBDev could cause the same thing. I know that I'm happily making only guesses about this... I don't know why it would behave like it does. Some of the time X didn't lock up the system even without that nice thing I did above, but at least I think I could identify where the system gets locked up. This time I didn't even see anything as distinctive in the strace dump as I did last time... I attached the output of tail -n 400 ~/stracedump | uniq -c This is from a run where strace wasn't niced and I got the freeze. With a niced strace, the part where the freeze apparently happens goes like this: ioctl(6, VIDIOC_S_FMT or VT_RELDISP, 0x1) = 0 shutdown(5, 2 /* send and receive */) = 0 close(5)= 0 iopl(0) = 0 ioperm(0, 0x400, 0) = 0 gettimeofday({1186408789, 97309}, NULL) = 0 gettimeofday({1186408789, 97409}, NULL) = 0 select(256, [1 3 4], NULL, NULL, {111, 851000}) = ? Clayton, do you know exactly which combination of xserver-xorg-core and xserver-xorg-video-siliconmotion you tried so far? Feel free to either reply direct in the upstream bug above or reply here and will be forward your reply there. Thanks, Brice Hi Brice, I am pretty sure that each time I moved from one version of xorg to another (snapshot.debian.net/archive/2007/03/08/debian/ -- testing -- unstable) *all* the xorg modules changed, including the modules. As I recall, apt-get was unwilling to easily let me do otherwise. So I do not think the combination of unstable xserver-xorg-core 1.3 and stable siliconmotion 1.4.1 was ever tested. Unfortunatly, that can't be done now, because as long as Raphael insists in having the exactly same say as I have, we won't find such a procedure (because the procedure needs to violate that wish). You might consider setting up individual branches, and a release branch; people commit to their own branch, solicit comments, and when the review is done, those changes can be pulled into the release branch. This is the way that the linux kernel works, and is also the way that policy is set up; and using git/arch/bzr/mercurial instead of CVS would also help. manoj -- In general, they do what you want, unless you want consistency. Bug#436256: pdfjam: Giant dependency set
Package: pdfjam Version: 1.20-2 Severity: wishlist Hi there, I've used pdfjam several times to merge pdf files - it's a very nice program. But the sheer size of it's dependencies is huge: - texlive-fonts-recommended sums up to 178MB - tetex-extra sums to 662MB! (the same with texlive-latex-recommended!) It ends up that a simple command-line pdf utility can take almost 200MB HD space, up to more than 600MB in the worst case scenario. This is not a bug per se - I fully understand that TeX is the backbone of the application - but I suggest a dependecies' review. Are all packages in the meta-packages dependences really needed, isn't it possible to narrow them down? Thanks for the time! Bug#378487: linux-2.6: kernel-2.6.17-3 on a P-IV locks up the machine: problem with 'drm:i830'
Hi, Thanks for your mail. I have not found any such problem after upgrading to Etch. Etch kernel ran fine for a few days I used. I am running unmodified stock kernel 2.6.20.10 for more than 2 months, and the system never locked up in this time. Therefore, you can close the bug from Etch onwards. Xorg uses 'i915' as the kernel module, whereas the older XFree86 used i830. Therefore, it is possible that the i830 kernel module was causing the problem. Bug#435214: [Pkg-octave-devel] Bug#435214: Clarification of licensing terms of semidef-oct
Rafael, I can see why our license is ambiguous. When we wrote it in 1994, we intended it to mean that the program is entirely free, for any purpose (including commercial) and without any restriction. If it is easier if we switch to a standard free license, I would choose the LGPL. Best regards, Lieven Stephen Boyd wrote: rafael, i am happy to switch the license to GNU, but of course we have to check with lieven. as a coincidence i will see lieven tomorrow, when we can send the final confirmation. however, it should be noted that semideg_prog is really quite old, and there are now far more recent solvers available for semidefinite programming. i have not used semidef_prog for many years now. i don't know which solver is best for linking to octave. i (and many others too) do most of my day to day convex optimization work using cvx, which has a GNU license, but unfortunately, runs on top of matlab. our plan (hope? goal?) however is to develop a full GNU system for modeling and solving convex optimization problems. lieven's CVXOPT is a good start along these lines, but i am not sure how easy or hard it is to tie python/C into octave. if you are interested in optimization software for octave, i'd be happy to chat; maybe we can help (beyond changing the license on ancient, but working, software to GNU). stephen Rafael Laboissiere wrote: I am one of the members of the Debian Octave Group [1], which maintains the Octave-related packages for the Debian GNU/Linux distribution. Your semidef_prog software, which was ported to Octave by A. S. Hodel, has been packaged for Debian [2] since 1998. Only recently, it has been brought to our attention [3] the fact that the license terms in the semidef_prog's README file are incompatible with the Debian Free Software Guidelines [4]. At least, the phrase distribute this software for any purpose without fee is ambiguous. Unless the license terms are clarified or they are switched to some standard license language (like MIT/X11 or GPL), we will be forced to removed the package from Debian, which would be a pity for our users. Just FYI, the semidef_prog software seem sto work correctly with the latest version of Octave (2.9.13). Bug#436258: erlang-base: sctp support
Package: erlang-base Version: 1:11.b.5dfsg-2 Severity: wishlist I think SCTP support should be enabled in erlang, adding libsctp-dev to Build-Depends should fix that. Bug#436139: phpbb2: fails on ipv6 enabled sites

This is a more fundamental problem with the IP-address handling in phpBB 2.0.x. Since upstream has declared the 2.x branch as nearly dead I don't think they will be fixing it - and I also don't think it would be worthwhile to overhaul how the IP code works for a branch that has probably Lenny as its last release. Of course you're welcome to submit a patch for it, or apply a local workaround. But with phpBB 3.x around the corner, with this issue fixed, and IPv6 still being quite rare, we are not interested into refactoring this code base. I'm sorry, and I hope you will find a way around this. Thijs pgpV6WLExa7cF.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#271384: MAXSTR issue
Hi Thomas, to what value did you increase MAXSTR? I did a quick estimate by resizing my xterm to maximum (on 1600x1200 with a rather tiny font, yielding 264 columns) and multiplying by 2 for a possible xinerama/dualhead setup. The outcome was more than 512, so I increased it to 768. If it's that much of an issue, I'll change these parts of the code to allocate the buffers dynamically - but I don't think it's worth the effort. Bug#436080: adjtimex: Minor errors in German translation of Debconf note
Hello, I know that one change is not universally accepted in the German translation team, so I'm fine leaving it to the maintainer of the translation. However, the following change still should be applied, especially as later on another path is followed by a full stop (without intermediate space). -Konfigurationsdatei /etc/default/adjtimex , sodass die +Konfigurationsdatei /etc/default/adjtimex, sodass die Greetings Helge -- Dr. Helge Kreutzmann [EMAIL PROTECTED] Dipl.-Phys. http://www.helgefjell.de/debian.php 64bit GNU powered gpg signed mail preferred Help keep free software libre: http://www.ffii.de/ signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#271384: MAXSTR issue
Hello Jan, I did a quick estimate by resizing my xterm to maximum (on 1600x1200 with a rather tiny font, yielding 264 columns) and multiplying by 2 for a possible xinerama/dualhead setup. The outcome was more than 512, so I increased it to 768. I see. 512 is enough for my 1920x1200 btw. However. MAXSTR does have an effect on every buffer allocated in screen which basically means that screen blows up in size: My main screen for example has 217Mbyte _RSS_ for 44 windows and a scrollback buffer of 5000 lines per window. (mephisto) [~] ps axxuww | head -1; ps axuwww | grep sithglan | grep SCREEN USER PID %CPU %MEMVSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND sithglan 18194 0.0 21.0 221424 217812 ? Ss Jul22 3:58 bin/SCREEN -S main -c .screenrc-main Never the less increasing MAXSTR is a big step into the right direction. If it's that much of an issue, I'll change these parts of the code to allocate the buffers dynamically - but I don't think it's worth the effort. There is more broken than that. For exmaple the following: Use a caption like the following: caption always '%H%{-b}%{= wb} %-Lw%{= wr}%50%{+b}%n%f %t%{= wb}%{-b}%+Lw%{= wr}%-017= %c %Y-%m-%d' and open 40 windows (I have that in the configile, too) Start screen in a xterm (80x25) now dettach and reattach on a xterm running fullscreen on 1600x1200 = BOOM = Segfault (you have to open a few windows to see that effect: like 40 or so) But if you start screen in a Fullscreen xterm in the first place you never get the SEGAULT. So screen seems to have a look at the wide of the terminal you start it initial and uses that information to allocate internal buffers. I never tracked it down (but it should be really easy to track it down) because it always happens to me when I reattach my (at work started screen) at home (I have bigger screen at home).
