Does it help if you drop vesafb completely? radeonfb might break things
for sure, I am not sure about vesafb.

And there is no way to get VGA-0 back to work at this point? (apart from

My current experience with xbacklight is that it indeed sets the
maximum brightness I can reach by playing with the brightness control
keys on my Dell X1. These can still be used but they only change the
brightness between 0 and the maximum set by xbacklight.

That probably changes a lot between laptops and graphics card
flavours.

I sometimes also experience weirdness like having to hit the backlight
increase key to.decrease the brightness..:-)

This driver causes very strange effects with console switching, which
used to work correctly before. The system is an LG LE50 Express laptop
with Radeon Xpress 200M and an external VGA monitor connected.

1. When the system starts I have kdm on the laptop panel, and the VGA
monitor is in powersave mode.

2. I switch to a virtual console (vesafb). The laptop now shows
garbage in the form of some jumping horizontal coloured lines which
move and flicker a lot. The VGA monitor is now activated and shows the
console.

3. Switching back to X restores the laptop display. Both the laptop
and the VGA monitor now show the same X session (like in clone
mode). (But the colours on the VGA monitor are fine, in contrast to
what I had before, see bug #440174!) However "xrandr" just shows the
following, indicating that it isn't aware that the VGA display is
active:

Yes, I think you're right, a structured formulation like this will make
maintenance must easier.  I'll see if I can get the equivalent running
within the bounds of autoconf.  I think what I'll do first is readapt
the existing upstream code, to reproduce the existing variable but with
better maintainability.

Then when that's ready upstream, I'll make the Debian patch for the %t
bits.  I think I might keep the Debian patch explicit in debian/patches
rather than applying it to the tree in our git, to emphasise that it's a
Debian-only patch not appropriate for pushing back upstream.

polymer, which self-assemble into titania (TiO2) films with polymer-filled pores 20 nm in diameter.
Currently, McGehee is still working to improve the efficiency of his solar cells and their
resistance to degradation over time in sunlight. "Right now, we're at 2% efficiency, and we
want to get to 15%." 15%? That might seem low, but silicon-based cells operate at 12%
efficiency, and most importantly, as McGehee points out, "there's a lot of sunlight out
there."

Yet, there remains a problem with the "nano" in both nanoscience and nanotechnology. "Nanotechnology's a term with
not too much new in it. It existed a long time ago," says Dai. Indeed, the characteristic length of bonds that have always
been under scrutiny in the molecular sciences is on the order of a nanometer. Chidsey adds, "I worry that the term confuses
people about what's important: the length scale itself is not important." Rather, it is the novel properties that structures
exhibit at the nanoscale that is. As Dai puts it, "We work on carbon nanotubes not because they are small, but because they
are interesting. They just happen to be nano." For all the problems with the term nanotechnology, though, it may have done
some good. Chidsey remarks, "Just as nanotechnology has attracted the attention of outsiders, it also stimulates us
internally: it provides a context for tackling and defining grand challenges-things so out there you wouldn't tackle them
otherwise."
